I’ll use this entry as an anchor for my observations on the second day of Extreme Markup Languages. I’ll update it with a note each time a new talk begins, but I’ll add my comments on the talk in the comments section. There is a numbering scheme for the talks, to correlate to comments.

D2.1. ODF is adding a richer metadata system in version 1.2. This will increase flexibility of expressed metadata by adding a metadata manifest, which connects xml:id's within the document to IRIs in the metadata files. The metadata manifest also points to these metadata files and uses an OWL ontology to nail down semantics. You can also use odf:idref and rdf:about on ODF elements. Content metadata supports an approach similar to RDF/a.
The goal is that ODF makes metadata very painless, and thus should increase adoption.

D2.2. Mentioned that he mostly uses The Unicode Consortium's Common Locale Data Registry (CLDR), Locale Data Markup Language (LDML). Also mentioned W3C I12N Tag Set (ITS).
More to locale ID than e.g. classic Posix LIDs. He gave an example: "de_DE@collation=phonebook,currency=DDM" which starts with the language, but also specifies that collation (I assume for names) uses the phonebook convention, and that he currency used is the former East German Mark. This is based on BCP 47 (RFC 4646 + RFC 4647).
Showed and example of an instruction to rename an element declaration (in a schema) from English to German locale. Happened to use XPath to ID the element to be renamed. Also showed an example of translating xs:date to a human-friendly German data syntax. In the latter case patterns for the substituted format used a CLDR format.
D2.5. Used media extensions to RSS as an example of Semantic chaos. A softer target is never to be found ;-)
