Update: For all of you APP (which includes me) fans out there, Joe Cheng recently provided this juicy piece of info in a follow-up comment,
Blogger is going to force everyone’s hand, including ours, when they move exclusively to APP… sometime soon. Looking forward to that day as everyone’s metaweblog implementations have their own quirks.
I must admit that it does add an ironic twist to hear someone from Microsoft make the all too famous,
“force everyone’s hand … when they …”
comment, but from the defensive, instead of offensive point of view. Just goes to show that no matter who you are, and how much of any given market you might own, you can’t sit still in this industry and expect such a “strategy” to work. Thats not to suggest that I believe MSFT has been sitting still, and instead that no matter who you are, or where you are from, simple ideas can, quite literally, become the next “big thing” overnight.
Who knows, maybe your idea, whoever you are, and whatever that might be, will be in place of “Blogger” the next time someone from ‘GigantoCorp’ (whichever GigantoCorp that might be) speaks these same words.
Thanks for the info, Joe!

Those of you who have been around the Web since right around day one or so will understand what I mean when I state: HomeSite ROCKS!!! (a statement often made in WebDev circles circa 1995)
For the record, HomeSite still ROCKS!!!, but thats beside the point.
So, what is the point?
I’m gettin’ there, snappy, now go take another
RitalinAdderallAdderall XR and go sit in the corner until it takes hold!
Okay, for those of you still with me,
Some quick background: JJ and Jeremy Allaire created Cold Fusion (the app server… They didn’t actually invent Cold Fusion, but if you are one of the confused ones, my only question is: Why are you not sitting in the corner? Go!), founded Allaire, which acquired HomeSite, all of which was aquired by Macromedia (one of few companies who can actually claim that if it wasn’t for the DotCom boom > bust cycle, they probably wouldn’t still be in business — another story for another time ;), which as we all should know by now, joined forces with Adobe last year to form a Super Monopoly an industry alliance (which, as a result, just so happens to own a somewhat larger portion of the Graphic Designer++ market than does any of their competition. — As a side note, it’s funny how that whole “is a monopoly/is not a monopoly” game system works, isn’t it?)
DISCLAIMER: I stand behind ALL of the above! :D
Anyway, the drugs should be taking hold right about now… You can come out of the corner.
Wow! While you all smiley and — oh, yeah — the drugs –
Nevermind…
So now that I have everyones (including especially snappy’s) attention,
To make a short long story just that much more painfully longer,
JJ Allaire and Adam Berrey (who co-founded Allaire with JJ and Jeremy) started Onfolio, which was acquired by Microsoft last March.

Microsoft, just one question: No APP support?
We want Writer to work well with every blogging service out there. If you can’t get Writer to work with your blog, we want to know.
Oh, EXCELLENT!
Now I just need to find a blogging service that supports APP! :D
Anybody???

Yes, it's odd that there's no APP support in their dedicated blogging client, but there is in the Word 2007 beta:

HomeSite _used_ to rock, until I switched to Unicode which it cannot handle properly.
@Eric,
Yeah, I knew about the Word-based APP support, so I'm with you on the "odd" notion. Hopefully the,
>> "We want Writer to work well with every blogging service out there."
comment will be enough to ensure that the support arrives, it simply a matter of priorities in regards to existing service providers and the interface they provide. I know that MovableType have already announced APP as the foundation of their future offerings, and I believe there are a few others who have suggested this to be the case as well.
Kind of a wait-and-see kind of thing at this stage.
>> until I switched to Unicode which it cannot handle properly.
It can't? Thas SUCKS! Of course, this really doesn't surprise all that much, but not because of HomeSite/Allaire, and instead, Macromedia. If not mistaken, the last release of HomeSite was right about the same time frame as Macromedia's acquisition of Allaire.
Of course, Nick Bradbury is alive and well > http://www.bradsoft.com/about.asp , and JJ has obviously proven with both Onfolio, and now LiveWriter that his innovative side is still alive and well, proving yet again that you can take away the art, but the artist lives on.
Good for both of them (Nick and JJ)!
Blogger is going to force everyone's hand, including ours, when they move exclusively to APP... sometime soon. Looking forward to that day as everyone's metaweblog implementations have their own quirks.
Ah, excellent, Thanks Joe!
I'll bring this info to the top of the post to ensure this information is brought to everyones (who happens to read this) attention.
