The default mode for Keyguard is to enable Keyguard whenever the Palm times out and shuts off the display. While this is probably the safest option, after a while I found it annoying. For example, when you want to take a picture in a hurry, before a crime perpetrator gets away, you have to hit the phone button then the Center button to disable keyguard, then Right to get to the Camera. No problem. Just go into the Preferences application. Choose keyguard, and turn it off. Now you have the option of turning the screen off with just the screen button - as when setting the phone down for a minute - or turning keyguard on with Option-screen. So Option-Screen then Screen sets keyguard on and turns the screen off; just what you need when it's going into a pocket, purse or belt clip.
