Want to check out Microsoft’s new Windows Vista Tips & Tricks site? If you’re a Vista user, don’t bother — the list of top tips is posted in a .pdf Acrobat file, and Acrobat doesn’t ship as part of Vista. What was Microsoft thinking?

Even more baffling is that Microsoft is pushing its Vista XPS format as an alternative to Acrobat. Why didn’t the company post the tips in XPS format? Beats me.

To be honest, though, you’re not missing much if you can’t read the Windows Vista Top 10 Tips & Tricks . These aren’t tips — they’re marketing points. Here’s tip number one: “Explore the new Windows Vista Start Menu.” Gee, thanks. Hadn’t thought of that.

Ironically, tip number 8 is to “Create an XPS document.” Maybe Microsoft should follow its own advice.
