Coming down the escalator a few minutes before 10am, I was pleasantly shocked to observe

attendees, 40-50 deep, waiting to get into the exhibit hall. You could sense the

excitement. And as the floor opened this energy spilled over into the O’Reilly booth with

visitors looking for the latest and most enduring titles. Our featured title,

href="http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/802dot11/">802.11 Wireless Networks: The Definitive

Guide sold briskly along with newcomer

href="http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/ipv6ess/"> IPv6 Essentials and perennial favorite

href="http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/dns4/"> DNS and BIND, 4th Edition. From the Linux

camp, Learning Red Hat Linux, 2nd

Edition and Understanding the

Linux Kernel sold strongly. Other titles of note were Mastering Regular Expressions, 2nd

Edition, Python Cookbook, and

Programming PHP.

In the vortex of all the activity, authors Luan Dang, Cullen Jennings, and David Kelly were

busy signing their book Practical VoIP Using

VOCAL. If the book signing is any indication, there seems to be intense interest in the

open source phone system Vovida Open Communication Application Library (VOCAL). And, a few

booths down VOVIDA.ORG, was demonstrating VOCAL.
