As Microsoft shows how much they care about the general community by stepping up efforts to stop license infringement in schools, some districts are starting to cut thousands of dollars from their budget by implementing Linux.
As the article points out, the move to Linux makes perfect sense, as many schools rely on older machines incapable of running Windows, and everybody can copy the system, modify it to suit their needs, and download free software.

School districts in California are the 40th state, by my count, to switch to Linux, Indianna being the 39th state.
After the prosecution of the teacher in Moscow, who purchased computers with licenses from Microsoft, that turned out to all be pirated, entire schools tossed out all Microsoft in exchange for Linux. No time in a Siberian Gulag for Linux, as is the case for Microsoft!
After the Norwich, CT persecution of substitute Julie Amero, because the classroom computer (win98 with IE5, and school IT violated CIPA!) was infected with malware in the 30 days prior to her one substitution day, 19 October 2004, teachers are wise to just say 'NO' to any and all Microsoft systems, and run a LiveCDrom
http://pclinuxos.com to prevent malware, pornographic pop-up blitzes.
http://pclinuxos.com runs/installs on any Pentium Class 350Mhz system, or better, with 256Mb RAM. Tons of those in schools!
