I'm the founder and CEO of O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. You can read my official bio at http://www.oreilly.com/oreilly/tim_bio.html. My unofficial bio is simpler. Born in Cork, Ireland, raised in San Francisco, went to Harvard and then lived in the Boston area for seventeen years, came back to California in 1989, and settled in Sebastopol, where we'd had a summer house when I was a kid. I'm married and have two kids, both of them perilously close to grown up, which is a frightening and exhilarating prospect. My greatest joy is being surprised by what comes next.
Most of what I write about in this weblog is likely to be related to O'Reilly & Associates or computer industry topics, but I'll also share reactions to books, movies, music, or events. I do most of my writing in email, but when I send out something that I want to have archived on the web, I'll likely put it here.
If you want to contact me directly, rather than responding to one of my articles, feel free to send mail to tim@oreilly.com. I can be reached by phone at 707-829-0515.
Tim O'Reilly
is the founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, Inc., thought by many to be the best computer book publisher in the world. In addition to Foo Camps ("Friends of O'Reilly" Camps, which gave rise to the "un-conference" movement), O'Reilly Media also hosts conferences on technology topics, including the Web 2.0 Summit, the Web 2.0 Expo, the O'Reilly Open Source Convention, the Gov 2.0 Summit, and the Gov 2.0 Expo. Tim's blog, the O'Reilly Radar, "watches the alpha geeks" to determine emerging technology trends, and serves as a platform for advocacy about issues of importance to the technical community. Tim's long-term vision for his company is to change the world by spreading the knowledge of innovators. In addition to O'Reilly Media, Tim is a founder of Safari Books Online, a pioneering subscription service for accessing books online, and O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, an early-stage venture firm.
