Word Counter: a New Dreamweaver Command

Language: JavaScript

Download the files for this script (zip format)

Macromedia's Dreamweaver is a very good editor with quite a lot of features, however, when editing or writing texts directly inside the application, you may find an important command missing, since it's not possible to retrieve the number of words or characters inside a document or its selection. This small script can easily be incorporated into your Dreamweaver / Dreamweaver Ultradev 3 or later in just a few steps.

Instructions

Inside the ZIP file, you'll find two files, of which only one is actually needed. After downloading, unzip and copy Word Count.htm into Dreamweaver's commands folder. The file skeleton.htm contains a basic template for your own commands.

For full instructions on how to incorporate the "WordCount" command into your Dreamweaver and details about the configuration mechanism, please see the article, Accessing Dreamweaver's JavaScript API.
