Urbanspoon v. Yelp

The benefit of either app over "Aroundme", "Where to?" "Google Maps, " etc. is the information in addition to simple addresses and phone numbers, such as operating hours, type of food, and cost. The reviews are also helpful in determining where to go when you have a bunch of choices. "Aroundme" et al. provide none of that. I agree Yelp covers a broader number of business types. Urbanspoon sticks to restaurants alone, which is one reason it's the better restaurant app. The reviews are simply better as a whole on Urbanspoon.

neither in my opinion,
both are equally worthless toys that aren't really comparable anyway.
I use the free app AroundMe along with Mapquest app and google maps. far more useful.

Not really a meaningful comparison this time...

Both apps are good, but they're not for the same thing. Yelp! is designed as a kind of Yellow Pages; it provides a broad array of info about local businesses, not just restaurants. Urbanspoon is good for something totally different. My problem with both is, my iPod's location isn't detected very well by AT&T, and I never get results that are exactly "nearby," with no way to put in my correct current address.

Urbanspoon is supreme, by far!

Yelp appears to entice reviewers to embellish a personal experience in order to create a COOL, FUNNY, or INFORMATIVE vote. Entertainment value in true National Enquirer mode. Fun perhaps, honest fair and balanced; I don't think so. Second, Yelp has a very broad scope of businesses and hence; does not do any one catagory very well. Too many reviews are inappropriate, have personal slander elements or are incorrectly posted to the wrong business. Urbanspoon is much more professional, accurate and fun. Their site format is also much more efficient to use. Cheers!
