Web Art Director

Working closely with the Creative Director and the Director of Online Publishing, the Web Art Director will manage the overall look and feel of our Web presence, developing and maintaining a strong and consistent image for the O'Reilly brand.

In addition, he/she will supervise a web designer and work closely with the programming team to make sure all projects are created on time and are technologically sound. Projects include intranet and internet, e-commerce, banner ads, and overall development of the O'Reilly brand presence on the web.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for overseeing all projects from concept through publishing
• Acting as a key contact for our internal marketing clients
• Being a creative resource for the design and programming team

Minimum Requirements

• Must be web savvy and proficient in creating CSS based designs.
• Formal education in graphic/web design. BA/BFA required.
• 7 + years agency or in-house design experience required.
• 3+ years experience in a creative supervisory role.
• Thorough understanding of web navigation and information architecture design, with the ability to clearly explain them to clients and team members.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the web and computing.
• Thorough knowledge of multi-platform computing: UNIX, Mac and Windows and understands browser compatibility issues.
• Thorough technical mastery of HTML/XHTML, CSS, Photoshop, graphic formats, text, ftp, and Flash.
• Full understanding of website production and project management.
• Ability to motivate a team.
• A strong understanding of design principles including typography, color, brand consistency, and consumer experience.
