Web Producer

The Web Producer ensures that the technical goals relating to production of template driven web publishing systems, content management systems (CMS), and design and performance of user interfaces of the Online department are met. This position will be responsible for working in a collaborative team environment building and maintaining website template elements according to a deadline-driven production process. This position reports to the Director of Content Services and is located at our headquarters offices in Sebastopol, CA.

Responsibilities

• Strong knowledge of mobile development; keen mobile sensibility
• Advanced knowledge of template and UI development in web-based systems and client-server environments
• Knowledge and use of the UNIX operating system and a UNIX text editor
• Practical, business-related knowledge of system analysis and design, to include structured methodologies, logical and physical database design, and business process engineering
• Familiar with principles of user experience design, including issues such as usability, navigation, site architecture, information design and accessibility
• Familiar with new technologies that impact user interaction and presentation, as well as backend production and delivery
• Advanced skills in:
  • HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, and RSS in web publishing/templates
• Familiarity with:
  • JSP templating
  • HTML5, CSS3
  • Mako templates for Python
  • SVN and/or other version control systems.
  • MySQL, SQL server, Oracle, RDBMS, Marklogic, Sparql, eXist
• Advanced bug tracking skills; able to define specific use cases where bugs occur and provide solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Fine-tuned skills in accuracy and proofreading with meticulous attention to details
• Strong templating skills in MoveableType and WordPress
• Practical skills in researching and learning new technologies
• Skilled in taking direction and knowing when to self-direct
• Ability to translate business requirements into specifications and to work cross-functionally
• Ability to provide technical leadership and training to team members
• Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects and overlapping deadlines
• Ability to solve complex technical and business issues with direction/approval
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment and cross-departmentally with software engineers and web producers of varying levels of expertise

Minimum Requirements

• 4-year degree in computer science or related field, or combination of relevant education and work experience
• 5+ years work experience in related technical positions
• 3+ years work experience in a lead technical role

Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):

• Ability to sit and use a computer keyboard for up to 3 hours at a time
• Ability to talk on the telephone frequently and for extended periods of time
• Ability to speak, read, and write in English
