Audience Development Manager
The Audience Development Manager will have a detailed understanding of
print and online audience behaviors with the goal to increase audience
size, engagement and transactions to help us maintain and invigorate MAKE magazine.
This position requires someone who is comfortable developing and executing
new business promotions including e-newsletters, acquisition emails,
partnerships and database marketing. This position reports to the
Publisher and will be located in New York City or our headquarters in
Sebastopol, CA.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Set up endemic partnerships for print magazine and websites
- Develop and execute new business promotions including e-newsletters, acquisition emails, partnerships and database marketing
- Manage cross-sell opportunities online
- Develop and execute annuity marketing programs online and by direct mail
- Track new/renew customer metrics and improve both through testing
- Initiate outreach strategies to grow audience via tech platforms including mobile
- Produce performance reports
- Manage relationships with third party vendors and service providers
- Reach magazine new business goals and online audience growth goals
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Advanced knowledge of Internet technologies relevant to online advertising, podcasting, RSS feeds, and more
- Working knowledge of subscription-based print publications, digital content, online, and e-commerce businesses
- Excellent analytical, creative, and organizational skills to develop new business promotions with regard to circulation modeling, attrition analysis, and renewals
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills; strong command of grammar, spelling and style
- Intermediate skills in word processing, spreadsheet, email applications, and Internet searching
- Ability to work independently with little supervision, and as a part of a team
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and shift priorities frequently, with little notice, and as necessary
- Ability to think strategically and act quickly on new circulation development opportunities
- Ability to work within tight deadlines to produce quick turnarounds
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four-year college degree in Business, Marketing, or Management, or related area of study, or a combination of relevant education and experience
- 3+ years experience in mid-level sales role
- Proven track record of building print and online audiences
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS with or without accommodation:
- Ability to sit and use a computer keyboard for up to 3 hours at
a time
- Ability to talk on the telephone frequently and for extended
periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds a distance of 20 yards at a
time
- Travel infrequently, up to 5% per year
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Cubicles or small offices depending on job requirements and location; some jobs may be performed from home offices with management approval
