Online Editorial Director

In this high visibility position we will look to you to oversee and manage the editorial operation for news on the oreilly.com websites. You will work closely with the Online Marketing Director and divisional General Managers to transform our strategic business goals into specific content initiatives.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Creates, shapes, and defines news events and produces them in the form of articles, blogs, screencasts, webinars, podcasts, and other digital formats.
• Oversees the acquisition, planning, editing, and publication of web content, supervising editorial staff and managing the editorial freelance budget.
• Creates and maintains strong collaborative relationships with outside writers, editors, producers and freelancers.
• Shares responsibility for meeting or exceeding stated revenue, traffic and business goals. Balances and tracks content against online revenue models and metrics.

Minimum Requirements

• Four-year degree in English, journalism, communications, or related area of study, and three years of related experience creating “newsworthy” and interesting online content or a combination of relevant education and experience.
• Expert knowledge of writing and editing text, video, and audio. Detail and deadline oriented, with extensive experience in editing and working with editors and writers.
• Experience in an online publishing environment, especially with emerging online strategies, user-generated content and community posting, online video, blogging, and screen and pod casting.
• Experience in staging successful live events online, both free and paid access.
• Intimate knowledge of web publishing; able to analyze and organize complex information for a Web site, including initiating and tracking changes to meet stated business goals.
• Thorough understanding of web analytics and SEO.
