The O’Reilly School of Technology merges the power of technology with a revolutionary pedagogy to create a 21st century online learning experience for those who may have been left behind by traditional methods.

In order to maintain an effective, real-world environment of “learn by doing” and seamless teacher-student interaction, the OST Senior Developer will manage and expand a variety of technology “sandboxes”, a large database of students with customized server accounts, an extensive e-Commerce GUI and back-end, and an ever-growing interface for administrators and instructors.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot technical support issues for students, staff, and authors through online ticketing system
• Improve, update, and document legacy software, database, and sandbox systems
• Spearhead conversion of eCommerce back-end
• Merge accounting software into new company-wide system
• Streamline course authoring, editing, and grading interfaces
• Create new software systems for marketing, sandbox, and infrastructure initiatives
• Maintain and improve website
• Provide technical alpha-testing for new courses
• Travel to off-site offices or conferences from time to time to help with technical issues

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or similar field, or equivalent experience
• 2+ years experience working within the LAMP open-source framework
• 2+ years experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and AJAX
• 2+ years experience in Linux-based C++, Perl, and/or Java
• Experience in eCommerce merchant systems and/or APIs
