Digital Content Specialist
The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for content inspection, cleanup, and transformation (writing and running XSLT transforms and other scripts to process XML, text, images, and other content, such as Word and FrameMaker files) into multiple output formats, as well as creating and running scripts for migrating content into one or more centralized repositories. The Digital Content Specialist also creates and maintains software and scripts to support the accessibility and re-use of content throughout the company, including automation software developed to use various application APIs. The Digital Content Specialist also fulfills content requests (such as for book excerpts or images), both for internal and external uses.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support scripts and web applications for processing content
- Develop, maintain, and run XSLT transformations
- Inspect, clean, and transform content for migration into centralized repositories
- Develop customizations and automation tools for content processing software
- Fulfill content requests
Minimum Requirements
- Strong XML skills (preferably with DocBook and XHTML) required. Ability to validate XML documents against DTDs and/or schemas. Knowledge of related technologies (XPath/XPointer, XInclude, and especially XSL-FO) a plus.
- Strong XSLT skills required. Ability to write moderately complex stylesheets for transforming XML. Some experience with XSLT 2.0 preferred; XQuery experience (any implementation) a big plus.
- Proficient in one or more scripting languages (Ruby experience preferred, but Perl, Python or other scripting language OK). Ability to write moderate to complex scripts for orchestrating and automating applications, file transfers, and other tasks. Web services experience (REST, SOAP) a plus.
- Web-application development experience preferred (Ruby on Rails experience a plus), including CSS.
- Ability to work independently to achieve objectives with minimal supervision.
- Ability to understand and accommodate needs of non-technical users while developing applications.
- Ability and desire to learn new technologies.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to seek and understand needs of others (future users) while formulating solutions to problems.
- Ability to explain technical information to non-technical audience.
- Good project management skills.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years professional experience preferred, but will consider enthusiastic recent graduate with relevant experience.
- Ability to work independently.
- Related experience in a technology area or publishing.
