"Bioinformatics.org: The Open Lab" is a non-profit organization established in 1998 at the University of Massachusetts Lowell to provide Open Source software for bioinformatics by hosting its development and keeping biological information freely available. The group has 300 members working on a dozen products. One of which is "Piper", a Peer-To-Peer (P2P) distributed scripting language originally used to build a P2P collaboration tool for distributed bioinformatics applications.
