I am a computer scientist, consultant, programmer, sysadmin and overall geek. I work at CFEngine AS as Senior Security Advisor. My role is to advocate the power and usefulness of CFEngine, particularly in the security space, and also to help the CFEngine user community through multiple projects, both internal and external. I am very interested in topics related to computer security, virtualization, configuration management and system automation.
I have more than 20 years of experience in system administration, security and computer science, and I have worked on both the theoretical and practical sides of computing. During college I founded the first computer security team at UNAM (Mexico's national university), which would grow to become a much larger organization, before moving to the U.S. to pursue my Ph.D. at Purdue University under the direction of Gene Spafford. Upon finishing my studies, my wife and I decided to go to Switzerland, where I worked as a researcher in computer security at the IBM Zurich Research Lab. After eight years there, we moved back to Mexico in late 2009, where I worked for HP Enterprise Services as a security consultant. I live in Querétaro with my awesome wife and our two beautiful daughters.

I’m giving an Ignite talk for the first time at DevOps days Paris. It’s an interesting format: a 5-minute talk with 20 auto-advancing slides, every 15 seconds. I found How to Give a great Ignite Talk by Scott Berkun very useful, including the accompanying video. read moreMarch 25 2013
About a year ago, Posterous was acquired by Twitter. A month ago, it was announced that it will be completely shut down by April 30th. I’ll spare you my rant about how the awesome customer service that characterized Posterous pre-acquisition completely disappeared after the acquisition :) On a more practical note, Posterous’ closing meant finding a… read moreWebcast: CFEngine 3: Empowering the Next-generation Sysadmin
