Ensure your company is trusted online - Free Guide
by Derrick StoryNetwork Newsletter for 08/15/2002
Dear O'Reilly Network Reader,
I want to cover two quick, security-related items today that may interest you.
The first is a reminder about our ongoing series, titled "Securing Small Networks with OpenBSD," by Jacek Artymiak, which is featured on our BSD DevCenter. The debut installment ran last February, and Jacek has just published part seven. If you haven't had time to peruse this popular series, you might want to start with the first installment:
Securing Small Networks with OpenBSD, Part 1
Also, one of our sponsors, Thawte, which specializes in encryption and authentication, has a free guide for O'Reilly Network readers. I'm going to let them tell you all about it in the second part of this letter.

ENCRYPTION + AUTHENTICATION = TRUST
Quick issuance on a 128-bit SSL certificate is not always worth the risk.
You may think people will regard your business as trustworthy because you've got a 128-bit encrypted certificate, but encryption does not guarantee trust. Claims that a 128-bit certificate will always guarantee trust are not true - only a rigorous authentication process can prove identity and therefore inspire trust.
Learn more about authentication and encryption. Download our FREE Guide "The value of authentication"
Some certificate authorities claim to fully authenticate companies before issuing certificates to them, but in fact they do not use trusted methods. The only way to inspire genuine trust is to only do business with a trusted Certificate Authority that does full authentication of your organization, proof of right and business license.
Thawte's business depends on rigorous authentication as does the online success of our customers Download our FREE Guide "The value of authentication" and find out how your business can succeed in the online world.
