Using Google to View MySpace or Any Restricted Site
Pages: 1, 2
Google Mobile
Another great way to bypass your proxy server is by using Google Mobile. Google Mobile is designed to let users perform a Google Search on their mobile phones. As such, the result returned by Google Mobile is automatically formatted to fit on small screen devices.
To use Google Mobile to load a site, use the following URL format:
http://www.google.com/gwt/n?u=www.websiteurl.com
For example, the following URL will load YouTube.com:
http://www.google.com/gwt/n?u=www.youtube.com

Figure 3. Loading YouTube.com via Google Mobile
In my testing, I found that using Google Mobile is very effective in bypassing the proxy server. The only problem is the page display, which requires you to click several times in order to view a complete page. But heck! If you can view a banned site, what are you complaining about?
Google Cache
The last technique to bypass your proxy server is to use the Google Cache. When you search for something, Google will return the sites that match your search keywords and, if possible, at the same time present its own cached version. It is highly likely that the site you want has already been cached by Google. For example, Figure 4 shows the search result when I searched for MySpace.com.

Figure 4. Using Google to search for MySpace.com
Clicking on the Cached link shows me the home page of MySpace.com (see Figure 5).

Figure 5. Viewing the cached snapshot of MySpace.com
Using this technique, you should be able to view most of the sites you want. The only downside to this is that the content cached by Google might be outdated, and some images may not load at all.
Summary
In this article, you have seen three ways to use Google to bypass your proxy server. Because Google is such a popular search engine, it is unlikely that your administrator will "blacklist" it. Have fun with Google!
It should be noted that not all of these techniques are necessarily unique to Google. Some of these methods will also work with the other major search engines; for instance, the Cache method works the same way on Yahoo Search and MSN Live. Yahoo also provides a translation service called Babel Fish that can similarly forward web pages, but it does not offer an English-to-English translation option.

some facts about proxies
2008-10-12 09:57:47 uniaxaj [Reply | View]
I have used many proxy sites over the years be it PHP CGI glype watever,
Nowadays none seem to bypass the ever strong filters{ websense, K9 , bess},
some things one should observe when looking for a proxy site:
-Shouldn't be a .info { filters by default block them coz most are proxy sites}
-Shouldnt contain the words proxy or others like myspace,orkut,bebo in it. { they keyword filter those}
-On the safe side should be a SSL encrypted ones {https sites filter find them difficult to scan}
-Should be a reputable provider and provide fresh domains update {So that proxy owners dont steal our information,
face the fact domains will get blocked eventually, so its necessary to provide new ones.}
-I would recommend CGI proxy , even if they are time consuming they give the desired results.
Currently i use https://makemoneyonline.org.in from pagemod.com proxies. They have both CGI and PHP proxies in them.
Very Reputable,SSL enabled, does provide new domains by just sending a mail to pagemod@gmail.com
Happy Browsing , Hope I was of some help

myspace
2008-03-13 05:52:57 lugnut6188 [Reply | View]
this is shit.
the site only brings you to the login page to myspace and then becomes blocked again, there is no other way to go onto myspace and check your mail, or any way to get the url to bypass the block. So if you can possibly please find a way to get the url so this proxy actually works.

2007-10-15 15:04:20 Kat13 [Reply | View]
the only thing that remotely works is that pinging idea... and even then you cant login!
Has anyone ever thought of a way of disarming the filters and unblocking for the school?
not just bypassing?
how would you go about that?
but... Does anyone remember those proxies that myspace itself was handing out last year?
Can i get someone to email those to me and not post them here cuz i mean seriously. how do you think admins find out in the first place?
my email : blackcatsurvivor@yahoo.com
but yeah... those proxies were basically handed to us.
and if you know them spread them non internetally. (lol)

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure

Proxy, pshhh
2007-08-21 23:13:21 qikink [Reply | View]
One simple way to get past all this, depending on how smart your security is, is to simply use the IP address of a site instead of its name. For instance, instead of http://www.myspace.com
just type:
http://216.178.38.121
The easiest way to find out the IP address is to ping the site. If you can, open a console, (its under accessories) and type:
ping myspace.com
the output will say something like:
Pinging myspace.com[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]
Where the x's are the IP address. I'm sure there's also an online IP lookup service somewhere. Probably lots of them.

Why?
2007-04-24 08:12:13 dirtboy [Reply | View]
Why would O'Reilly post something like this? I usually come here to make my job easier. I work as a systems admin for a school district. O'Reilly just made work a lot harder. After one kid finds this story linked it spreads like wildfire and we have to jump through a thousand hoops to get it blocked again. Not because we want to, but because the law says we have to, and myspace has very little educational value yet will take up most of their time.
Is myspace considered a necessary site for actual work? C'mon, how many of the O'Reilly employees will actually use this with the blessing of management? Who's the target for this article? Technology professionals? I don't think so. -
Why?
2008-04-19 11:24:55 iluvrandutaylor [Reply | View]
It's addicting. WE NEED MYSPACE. Some of us have parents who are online 24/7 at home and the only place I can get online is SCHOOL!!! SHOCK!!!! And if you hate jumping through all the hoops, at least try to do something to change it!!!!
Yes, MySpace is considered necessary for school work. Sometimes, people take polls on MySpace (like me) for school work and CANNOT ACCESS THEM IN TIME AND GET A LOWER GRADE FOR IT!! And, most times, kids think about MySpace all day and all night, and ways to get on at school and you just DON'T GET IT!!!! Eh, this is a waste of my time. No one listens to me anyway. Bye. -

My parents are very lairy pver the computer use, and stand over me like manky great gargoyles daring me to even touch myspace with my cursor =/
My friend lives in colorado and due to the time difference about 7 hours i think, i can only talk to her through myspace during the week.
So unforyunately when Brook, wakes up i am in the the school library catching up on my coursework, what harm is there in me messaging her three times?
NONE!
But the school, still decides to block it as its unproductive
BS i say, i'm a straight A student, but now i'm mainly miserable becasue i can enver talk to Brook,
How is that fair?

This is what passes for content?
2006-12-31 02:36:07 kuza55 [Reply | View]
Firstly, is this seriously what passes for content here? Using google's translate service to bypass conteny filters? Completely disregarding the fact that MySpace should really remain blocked everywhere, why does something that has been known and used for years warant yet another article? And especially considering there are much better web proxies out there which also proxy images, etc?
But anyway, enough of that, I'd like to point out that the translate method that was described here has NOT worked for months (at the very least, this isn't exactly something I keep a close watch on), if you take a closer look you'll see that if translation you are requesting is not a valid translation (e.g. English to English like in the first example), then the bottom frame is just redirected to the site you asked Google to translate, and so that method will not get you past web proxies.
And anyway, Google doesn't change form actions or anything, so whenever you use a form it tries to send the data to the original site, and does not get proxied by google. So go use a decent Web Proxy, which is *meant* to proxy your data.
If you're still desperate to use the translate hack use ko|en or something similar for the translation method.

It gives me a warm fuzzy that poeple are so helpful on the Internet.
I run the filtering system at work. Two more filters added.
[sarcasm]
I'd much rather spend my time working to get people fired for violating comapny policy, than leaving them happily employed for years because I've kept them from being able to violate policy with my Inernet filters.
Its a lot more fun than doing real technical work!
If my boss find this article (he reads the same technical site I do that referenced this article), I'll get the fun task of setting a parse job for looking for this type of activity that we have logged in the past year so that I can relieve them of gainful employment.
Prior to this article, if they were using this technique, they would only have been at risk if they did it in front of the wrong person at the wrong time.
Awesome!
[/sarcasm]
How dare my employer think that they should have any control over what someone is doing with an Internet circuit they pay for, using equipment that they own. Power to the People!

create a proxy server to use Google's Cache
2006-12-22 09:36:03 leejoramo [Reply | View]
A related technique is to create your own proxy server that fetches content from Google's Cache instead of the original site. The advantage is that you can browse the site naturally by just clicking the links on the page. While I have never needed this to get around a local admins access restrictions, I have often used it when a site is unreachable and I need to get some important information.
Here is an example in python:
http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Cookbook/Python/Recipe/408991
updated code, without the discussion :

This really was a very interesting article and indeed very clever...
But you should know that if the administrator is much clever than that, there is a high possibility that he/she has installed a "smart filter" application. Such applications do what they say filter sites. then you have a real problem... -
