I took my recalled Dell laptop battery to the Post Office this morning to see if they would ship it. It turns out that it is their policy to not ship batteries in general, and not just the exploding ones. The postal worker told me, “due to everything that’s going on, a lot of our policies have changed in the things that we ship.”
UPDATE (2006-08-24 19:43): I heard back from the USPS and some types of batteries are restricted. Here is a quote from the email:
Some types of batteries are restricted from being shipped through our system. For specific information, you will need to contact the Mailing Requirements Office in your area.
It's only explosive if it's in use. DUMB ASS.

This one wasn't powered on when it exploded. This report doesn't say whether it was plugged in or not, but I heard of another report where the laptop was neither plugged in nor powered on when it exploded.
You know, you kind of come off looking like a tool in this video. Could you have said the word "explode" a few more times?
I work for the USPS and recently received instructions on shipping batteries through the mail. The only way to mail is by packaging the battery in a "mailer" provided container. The label should be pre-addressed. Some barcoded return labels are prepaid. Those hazardous items, batteries, water samples, etc... are not allowed to fly on any airline. They must travel via a ground transportation provider. Contact your provider if you haven't received your pre-addressed, postage paid packaging for your battery. There are restrictions on some types of batteries. I think all pc batteries are mailable but only per the USPS instructions.
I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this? http://www.batteryfast.co.uk
You can ship batteries via USPS, I do it all the time. so that postal worker was mistaken. Also you can find this battery for cheap at needbattery.com
