The Python Atlanta “Meetup” group has been using Meetup.com for quite a while now but we’ve recently decided to discontinue using them. I had suggested using something like Upcoming for scheduling our meetings. With a week until our next meetup (he created this last week), one of the guys in the group came up with this, which I think perfectly fits the bill for what we were needing: scheduling and reservation management. I’m sure if we wanted to, we could expand it a bit to handle group email announcements, but we have a Google group for that. I was pleased all around by the initiative to create this site, the usefulness of it, and the willingness to host it for the group. Thanks, Rick!

He might want to change the word 'meetup' to something else.

Done!
Very nifty!
If I was going to be in Atlanta then, I'd sign up for sure!

If you were in the Atlanta area, we'd love to have you again. Stop by any time!

Whew. Better safe than sorry (note that I heartily disaprove of the way trademarks are infringing on our ability to use and evolve language, but this is a fight you just didn't need to get into).

Well, apparently Meetup.com actually did request that I get rid of all references to "meetup" just after your comment. (It was already done by the time I heard about their request.)
Hey, it's only fair, after all. I searched Google and couldn't find any generic references to the word "meetup," so Meetup.com probably coined the word (as one word, as opposed to "meet up"), and they (IMO) deserve the trademark. So I was happy to oblige.
Now with reminders
Just a heads up - I added email reminders (via a cron job and a "secret" url.) You will get them "x" days in advance if you go into account settings (after logging in) and request them (by setting "x"). To generate the emails, I decided to use Kid to render plain text. It's actually fairly straightforward. Anyway, enjoy!
