The first week of August I’ll be in Portland for OSCON 2005. I haven’t attended an OSCON since my employer paid for the team to go to OSCON in Monterey. (When was that? 1999? 2000?) This time, instead of just attending, I’ll be blogging each day’s sessions here. I’ll be mostly following the Perl track, with a few other interesting bits thrown in for good measure.
OSCON these days is pretty big, with over a dozen tracks and far too many timeslots in which I wish I could be in several places at once. I’m sure there are other OSCON bloggers out there, and it occurs to me we could all live vicariously through each other by getting some good crosslinking going. Even when we have overlapping sessions, there’s a decent chance we’ll fill in each other’s gaps.
I’ve only picked my tutorials so far (I’d welcome advice for the sessions):
- Monday
-
- Morning: Presentation Aikido (Damian Conway)
- Afternoon: Law for Geeks (Lawrence Rosen)
- Tuesday
-
- Morning: Perl Best Practices (Damian Conway)
- Afternoon: Creating Passionate Users (Kathy Sierra)
What tracks/tutorials/sessions will you be blogging?

I'll be there
You're a match on three out of four of your tutorials with mine.
I'll be giving two presentations:
* Preventing Crisis: Project Estimation and Tracking That Works
* Practical Perl Testing
And here's my oreillynet blog:

Re: I'll be there
Earlier on the press conference call they stated that Perl Best Practices was filling up, and Learning Ajax (my second choice for that timeslot) was setting attendance records, so that one may be changing.
I was planning to attend Practical Perl Testing -- it was one of the few sessions I was sure about -- and your other presentation sounds interesting too. Hmmmm. So many options, so few timeslots . . . .
Thanks for the blog link!
I'll be there also
Unfortunately I can't make it for the tutorials, but I will get there Tuesday afternoon in time to see the evening extravaganza.
My focus is networking and systems, and since I work for an ISP I'm trying to focus on things that apply to what I do or what our company wants to do. I'm going to try and blog what I can. Sometimes I just don't want to take notes in a presentation.
Here's the sessions I'm going to:
Wednesday Aug 3
VoIP Is The New Black
Current State of the Linux Kernel
Write Your Own Monitor with RRDTOOL
Writing & Instigating O'Reilly Books
OSS Data Backup
CalDAV
Thursday Aug 4
You Had Me At HELO
Failover Firewalls
Attack & Penetration
Using Apache/PHP To Defend Your Systems
Running With Scissors
Security Logs
Friday Aug 5
Filtering The Future
Hacking Your Home Phone System
OSCON Aggregator
My buddy and colleague Kris has an OSCON aggregator [1] on his Event Blogging [2] site, so those at home can play along too by subscribing to the bundled feed (the XML button at the bottom of the aggregator page), but as a warning--or perhaps enticement?--subscribing to that feed will be like drinking from the firehose. Incidentally, I found out about this post through the PubSub feed there searching for the term "OSCON".
