According to this article it seems that Sun will announce tomorrow a new distribution program that will motivate OEMs to distribute Java SE with their equipment. If this is true, it will certainly help distribute Java on variety of platforms. I see this move as an attempt to make Java more suitable for writing client applications than it is now.
Do you think that this will lead to more client-side development in the Java?

Sounds like a good idea, but it's not going to be the solution to all our desktop Java problems. Just for starters, it doesn't do anything to account for:
all the existing PCs that don't have Java; orthe fact that Java is being constantly upgraded
Deployment is a complex, hairy problem and Sun needs to come up with an elegant, many-pronged approach where each issue is considered but the solutions merged into a cohesive whole. There is no quick fix.In short, desktop Java deployment needs some serious brains dedicated to the problems.
I myself would be less reluctant to deploy client-side java with the assurance that most PCs would have the environment bundled already, as in the case of OSX.
Hi all!
