While most people were enjoying a relaxing weekend, I really needed to stay up until 2 AM this morning and create graphs of FOAF “networks”. Instead of 8 hours of sleep, I drank far too much soda, and did battle with Python’s ClientCookie, O’Reilly Connection, Graphviz, and FOAF. The results are on Flickr…

Maybe if someone had a FOAF feed that also included links to DOAP documents we could create a political map of open source?

…thank you Flickr with your RESTish links and easily integrated content.

I think these graphs are interesting merely because they show that 2 degrees of separation can bring graphviz to it’s knees. I should apologize to the O’Reilly Network operations team, I’m sure my Python script made someone’s load monitor go off at 1 AM Central last night as I was rapidly downloading hundreds of FOAF documents off of Connection. The last few graphs took nearly an hour to render with neato, and a few tries before I realized how to tweak the graph files to create appealing output.

I’d like to visualize six degrees, but I think I’ll need someone to donate supercomputer time to me? Anyone interested?
