CVS is everywhere on the OS world… and is in a lot of companies too (unless you want to pay a few million for a Rational tool, or a bit less for some other tools :) I have always disliked WinCVS and co, but now it seems that we have better options: IDE support, Smart CVS which works on different platforms, Tortoise CVS which just integrates with Windows Explorer, and more.
What about Subversion? There are items that have bugged me about CVS for a long time, and it seems to get around them…. but is it going anywhere? Does anyone use it? Will v1.0 ever come out?
What cool CVS clients do you guys use… and what do you think about the state of version control?

There's no capital V in Subversion.
Yes, people use it, and yes, 1.0 will come out at some point relatively soon. The number of remaining bugs is dropping as we speak... The status page would be a good place to look if you're curious what's holding us back at the moment. Honestly, we're quite conservative with what we're willing to call a 1.0 release, so the software as it stands is quite stable, it's mostly weird edge cases we're still hunting down.

CVS
I mostly use PRCS whenever I don't need client-server functionality (which is 99.9% of the time).
I glanced at Subversion every now and then, and will give it a close look once it gains critical user mass; but so far I don't really like it. My memory is hazy on the details, but IIRC like CVS it doesn't have a proper notion of a project, and instead uses 'directory full of files' as substitute.

Tortoise CVS
is awesome--the best thing since sliced cheese. Having been primarily familiar with the travails of WinCVS, I have to say Tortoise is a world apart from other CVS front-ends.
I still favor the command-line, overall, though.

Tortoise CVS with CVSDude is pretty simple aswell. No hassles just set up an account and you've got your own cvs server.
