Apple is recalling laptop batteries:
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other international safety authorities, Apple is voluntarily recalling certain lithium ion rechargeable batteries that were sold worldwide from October 2004 through May 2005 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4. These batteries were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea.
Recalled batteries include model numbers starting with: A1061, A1078, A1079, HQ441 through HQ507 and 3X446 through 3X510.
Apple is also recalling Macbook Pro batteries: batteries with model number A1175 and a 12 digit serial number ending in U7SA, U7SB and U7SC.

You have the wrong recall information. The new battery recall is for sony made battery cells and the product numbers and serial numbers are different.
While I appreciate the humour in that last phrase, I also think that the whole computer industry has to - at some point - admit that quality is going down the drain... Just an example: I bought a white MacBook soon after they were released. Those yellow stains? I believe they stem from the _heat_ produced inside the MacBooks. With the new SMC firmware, the computer is running cooler, ventilation is on more often. My guess: If the MacBook had this firmware from the beginning, the plastic top wouldn't have shown any stains at all. If I'm right, and I believe I am, someone at Apple chose to make the MacBooks more "silent" quite late in the game, risking the MacBooks to generate more heat (bad for the user, anyway) and tinting the beautiful surface. Quality control out of hands... :/
Of course the batteries are something different. But if Sony knew about this 10 months ago (actually talked to Dell about it 10 months ago), shouldn't the companies Sony sold batteries to have recalled the batteries sooner? Both Apple and Dell had previous "flaming batteries" problems before. Did they wait because they knew it would get them bad press to recall the batteries, hoping it just wouldn't happen?

Apple really needs to update their search pages. A search on "battery recall" didn't find it, and I didn't notice it on the front page. Finally found it in a small font on the PowerBook page.
And mine is OK, surprisingly enough. Looks like Apple may have more than one supplier, or there's going to be another recall later.
Ok things need to be recalled from time to time, look at the car industry for a start. yes my Battery needs to go back, but i have to wait 2 to 6 weeks for the new one when at least 2 mac stores in the uk have them in stock, what a crap bit of customer service....come on mac sort your self out. you just want to blame everything on Sony, when some top dog got paid shit loads of money to sign the deal with sony in the first place. come on pull the stops out and make me happy.
