The Nintendo DS Lite became officially available in the US today (June 11 - though some stores jumped the gun and had them on shelves last week). Being a doting dad, I went out and bought one for my child (Hey, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it :-) and to compare it to the first generation DS Phat.

Nintendo DS Lite on an Apple MacBook
I haven’t tried to play a game on it yet (I need to get permission from a very short person in my home first). But, I took it out of the box, applied the screen protectors, and turned it on to make sure it worked. The DS Lite looks and feels better designed than the first generation model. And, any iBook or MacBook owner will definitely note the striking resemblance. I’m hoping we can get some head-to-head Mario Kart DS WiFi racing in my home this weekend. More on the DS in the next few days and weeks.
On an amusing related note… My tongue-in-cheek suggestion that Apple buy Nintendo…
Apple should buy Nintendo instead of Palm
…is apparently a regular rumor that floats around the net. Barron’s collected a couple of recent related rumors in their blog item…

Crotch shot! Like the infamous tea kettle?
I can't really see, though. What is on the DS's screen(s)?
Nice crotch...
You should *really* have photoshopped the screen :)
Nick/Jonathan: Ha! Thanks for the catch. I fixed the photo :-) The joys of being a truly amateur photographer...todd
make cammera software and an empty game card to save photos on. You could also make a commpatible printer.
