iPod nano with iSkin case
My iPod nano starts to reset when I press Select on the Music menu item (and no other item) every few months. The first time it started happening, I sent the nano to Apple for repair. However, it was sent back with a note saying that no problem was found with the unit. So, here’s a couple of theories…

  1. Apple sent the iPod nano back to me in factory reset condition (this is expected). And, in fact, the nano worked fine for a while after being returned to me in that state. Is it the case that nanos need to be factory reset every few months? I factory reset my unit using the March 23 update this evening after the problem started up again. And, the unit seems fine again after doing that and reloading my song/podcast library.
  2. Is the tight iSkin case with hard plastic covering for the thumb wheel somehow causing the wheel to press the Select-Play combination that causes a normal reset? I should call/email iSkin and ask about this. But, how about anyone else out there with other similar case designs that includes a hard plastic cover over the circular control?
  3. Of course, it could be that I just have a one-of-a-kind slightly flaky unit that passes Apple’s diagnostics because of some oddball unique problem.

If you have a similar issue, chime in (especially if you can explain it :-).

Jan. 6, 2007 UPDATE
I’m sorry to hear/read that so many people have so many problems with their iPod. However and unfortunately, this is not a general purpose iPod help forum. There are, however, many web sites that do provide the kind of information that may help you. So, I put together a single iPod support reference page to help you find the right iPod help resource. You can find it here: MobileViews iPod Info
