I read that the Sony PSP 2.70 firmware was available in Japan and decided to check if it was also available in the US although the Sony PSP Update page still shows 2.60 as the current firmware version in the US. I used the PSP’s built-in network (wireless) update feature and found that, yep, the 2.70 update is available in the US too. Here’s some info and gotchas.
Gotchas
- The upgrade refuses to proceed if the PSP’s battery is under 50% even if it is plugged into an A/C outlet.
I’m guessing the concern is in the event of a power outage during an upgrade.
I let my PSP charge up to 59% and restarted the upgrade process successfully.
- The PSP appeared to lock up after the upgrade.
I could not even use the on/off switch.
So, I pulled the battery, put it back in and restarted the PSP.
Everything went well after this point, please check directly with Sony if this happens to you.
My experience might be an isolated incident

PSP Firmware v2.70 seems to be incompatible with ffmpeg generated x264 video. FYI.

What happens to the people who have this update version 2.70 on the psp but what does it do for the people who cant connect to the internet from the psp??..i cant connect the internet so when are they gonna make an update version for the people who cant get online..??
Hey for yall who can't connect to the internet from the psp try going close as you can to your school cause usually the schools have wireless internet so when im in gym i get online while im just sitting there doing nothin...so try that tip out at your local elemtary, middle school, or high school.....but be carefull teachers are around..

Direct WiFi connection from the PSP. 2. Download the files to a PC/MAC then write it to a Memory Stick Pro Duo. 3. From a UMD. Recently released games may have the 2.7 upgrade on the game disc.
I have found a way to own the latest psp games and video. all you have to do is own a PSP memory card and pay a one off payment to a website and then download the latest games straight to your psp. Theres no download restrictions and its 100% legal. i have saved hundreds on the latest games. i was so happy that i have to spread the word. For links to these sites check out :

how do i get 2.70?
The 2.70 upgrade is no longer available since it has been replaced by the 2.80 upgrade. You can upgrade by downloading 2.80 from the link provided in the blog entry (click on the hyperlink) and following the directions or by downloading the upgrade directly to your PSP using a WiFi connection.
I went to the link that you posted, and the file appears to have been removed. Would you have another link or a way to do a direct file download? Thanks, Aya
i have a problem with my psp 1000K, i bought it here in japan, problem is when i try to turn it on, the green light will go on for only ten seconds then it will not start, what could be the problem,
i can't contact the sony service center, they only speak japanese......please help.....
