Check out the laptop logo from last night’s Veronica Mars. Were the writers just dropping a red herring? Or are product logos a new problem in Neptune? Until now, Apple been proudly and prominently featured in the very pro-Mac UPN show.

I've seen that a lot, actually, both in print and on shows. In print/ads/web graphics the logo is usually photoshopped out. If you go to Corbis.com and do a search for "laptop", you'll see how many of them have the logo missing. On TV shows, the sticker is more common.
I actually thought it was a joke when I saw it yesterday. An inside joke. (Even their female nerd calls herself "Mac" in the series!) My guess: We'll see the Apple logo in the next episode.
Actually, when you are making anything that you intend broadcast and make money from you are legally obligated to seek permission for any image that is protected under copyright. That includes logos.
While many companies like Apple allow their products to be featured in almost anything, many producers simply have better things to do that to confirm it. And with legal practices being what they are, I'm sure that UPN's lawyers insist upon permission.
Actually, networks/producers are increasingly asking to be paid for product placement. The OC producers were asked by Fox to stop having eveyone use iPods since Apple was not paying for the placement. The theory is that if you're not paid for the placement, what's the justification to detract from ads for similar products placed by paying advertisers? Thus more stickers on apple laptops.
Actually, as a big fan of the show I have noticed that lately they have placed lamps, desk clutter, anything in front of her laptop to hide to logo!! Sad, but true. The red fish is nice touch tho. :)
Agree with matx. My first thought was: "What, did they not find a soda bottle or other obstacle to put in front of it this time?". I'm not sure if I've seen the logo revealed at all in this season, but for Mac-people, there are still a lot of goodness to be found. For instance you see apps like Safari, Mail.app and so forth. Even if they have added nice click-sound-effects on top of it, it's still tonns better than the weird OSes that you see in most movies. OSes that you know only exist in the film-world :)
xGrape: It's funny that because of the matters listed in this thread and because it is relatively easy to create custom looking applications and desktop skins, I have seen Linux as the operating system used in a lot of shows. Numb3rs is an example, but NCIS and others use it as well... if you pay close attention, you can see the touches here and there.
