John Siracusa has a great little piece up about today’s significance in Apple history. Five years ago today, Mac OS X 10.0 hit shelves and took off running. What a long, strange trip it’s been. I think it’s safe to say we’re all looking forward to what’s ahead. Especially as Apple’s own birthday is a little more than a week away.
Happy birthday, Mac OS X, and many more! Now, let’s see what kind of cool products Apple’s going to announce for its 30th anniversary. What are you hoping to see?
I hope that Apple will announce something. A company like Apple cannot sleep, they have to present something, and something good.
From my point of view I don't think Apple will release anything that I will be interested in for the 30th Birthday Bash. The only thing that I want at the moment is a replacement for my ageing 1GHz Titanium PowerBook that will come in the form of a 17" MacBook Pro equipped with a 64-bit Merom processor, and I'm not expecting those to become available before September. When this is bought I may consider getting an iPod to go with it (not an option at the moment since the dropping of the Firewire connection and no USB 2.0 ports) so a revision of the product line would be interesting in advance but, to be honest, iPod news tends to get a little dull these days. Still, if they make any announcements that involve uses of the various touch-screen patents that they've been filing then that would be interesting if only to see where they are planning to go with this sort of thing (video iPod, PDA, tablet computer, etc).
