I pretty much agreed with Matthew Russell’s disagreement with John Dvorak’s prediction that Apple would dump OS X for Windows until this evening…

Why did I start to doubt the switch (which still doesn’t sound like a good idea to me)? I got my iPod nano back from AppleCare this afternoon. I plugged it into my Mac to restore my music and photos and was presented with an information box telling me the iPod was formatted on a Microsoft Windows system and need to be restored to factory condition (isn’t that where it sort of just came from?) before I could sync it with iTunes on a Mac.

Is Microsoft Windows the preferred iPod diagnostic and repair preparation tool at Apple? Will my future Mac mini Media Center run Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition instead of Mac OS X? Inquiring minds want to know :-)

P.S. My guess is that Apple prepares repaired iPods for a Windows PC because most iPods are now purchased by people using PCs running Windows and getting it to work on a Mac box is simple enough not to worry about Mac owners running into a problem.
