Suggestions solicited. How do you throw away a trashcan?
Our poor trashcan has recently been attacked by foxes and submitted to various other indignities of time, aging and the normal lifespan of trashcans. Recently, I’ve wondered–how do you throw away a trashcan? Do you put a big sign on it saying “This trashcan is, itself, trash” or “Take me, I’m garbage”? Cut it up into pieces and stick it in a garbage bag? This is a regular Rubbermaid trashcan that we use to supplement the city-issued unit.
I look forward to hearing ideas on this subject.

Take it to the dump yourself
Most localities allow you to do that (for a small fee, if any).
One inside the other.
I was accidentally successful in doing this by simply putting one trash can inside the other. Not sure if this is a fundamental rule, amongst trash collectors.

Just tape a sign to it saying "please take can". They did not even charge me for it.
Put it in my neighborhood
I have had 2 trashcans STOLEN in the past 6 months. They didn't blow away, either, I checked. So, put your trashcan in my neighborhood and you'll never have to see it again.

Recycle it
If it's a rubbermaid can, and your municipality recycles, recycle it! It's made out of recycleable plastic. Check the bottom for the logo.

Whoa, that is way too procedural.....unless I miss my guess you must be a C programmer.
Of course everyone knows that if you construct your TrashCan object properly once it is no longer needed Garbage Collection will dispose of it to free up space in the Heap.
Trebuchet
Fill the can with sand, weld the lid shut. Or use ducting tape. Build a full-sized replica trebuchet, with an arm 8-12 meters long. Make sure that it's pointing away from your house. Fling.
Truly disappointed
If this alleged trashcan is still even remotely recognizable as such, then it is still going to be usable for any number of household tasks. A true hacker would not discard any item that, while no longer functional in the original task for which it was designed, might be resurrected for a new application. Think along the lines of all those 486's turned firewalls.
shoot, that's easy
Stick it out on the curb with a "For Sale $5" sign on it. Within an hour it will be gone.
