Saul Griffith showed this to me a couple of months ago. It’s a web site that allows people to collaborate on new designs for things. We’re thinking of doing something like this for the Make web site.

Very important idea!
The reference you cite is very cool but strictly dedicated to the practical and the altruistic.
You're so right that some similar collaboration tool is needed for the incubation of those ideas which compell us though we can't say why.
I think such a step would be key to the success of your bookazine: harnessing some of the peripheral creative energy out there and focussing it on producing things will create plenty of material for your publication, and will also help Make be more than another halfbakery.com.
I'll gladly help with such a project.

PS
A new word is definitely needed for this singular type of object, the urge to create it, and the creative energy we reserve to do this.
Collaboration & Support of ThinkCycle
Why not working together with ThinkCycel instead of a MeToo-project? Looking at their web-site it appears that they may need some fresh attention (most of it was posted in '02 & '03)!

Collaboration & Support of ThinkCycle
I agree 100%! "Me-too" sites get really annoying. If we as a community are going to do the same thing, then why not join forces instead of creating opposing factions? Also, it would really be nice if O'Reilly would offer to host the site or send a bit of cash to help pay for the site maint or bandwidth reqs.
