What the… ?
Why has iSync got its fingers in Safari’s bookmarks? Don’t see any evidence of them on my iDisk, iPod, or in iCal. Theories?

.mac fun
The prevailing theory (read: blatant rumor) is that you will be able to sync your bookmarks amongst multiple computers in the not-so-distant future, likely over one's .mac account, and this phenomenon is a precursor to that ability.
.mac fun
I put in a feature request for just that very thing.
I have more than one Mac and it would be nice to sync my bookmarks like I sync my contacts and calendar.
Good to see that the hooks are there, at least.
What would be even better...
I store all of my bookmarks on yahoo and access them via the Yahoo companion toolbar on my pc's internet browser (at work and at home). Unfortunately, i can't do the same on my mac...I can only access my bookmarks on yahoo via web pages. Why don't we just store our bookmarks on a .mac server and have a feature that allows safari to just point to those bookmarks no matter how many computers you use and where.
.mac fun
This already kind of works using their "Backup" software and .mac
Just backup your bookmarks to .mac from 1 mac and restore them on all the others. Not quite syncing but is useful for standardizing your bookmarks accross multiple computers.

Because then I'm forced to subscribe to .mac, when I'd rather be able to host my own using WebDAV, et al. -- since I don't need the email account or the file storage space. All I really want is to be able to use iCal, iSync, iDontKnowWhatsNext with my own server, and not be forced to use .mac. After all, I already paid for my server...
Unless, of course, I can *specify* where the bookmarks are stored. Currently, though, iSync does not (to my knowledge) work with anything other than .mac using a proprietary format. iSync does not yet use SyncML, IIRC. Can someone verify that, as it has been a while since I've looked? Even so, I haven't seen any software updates for iSync in *quite* a while now.
What would be even better...
SyncML is exactly what iSync uses (at least with the phones that it supports)
