I don't currently have an Airport access point at home. The new Airport Express gizmo does appear to be something I might want to buy to use when traveling, but I was pretty disappointed when I read that it won't extend non-Airport networks (see foot-note #2 here). However, this article brings up WDS (Wireless Distribution System), and how Airport Express just might (unofficially) extend non-Airport networks. I'd like to hope so.
