This year's NAMM show shattered attendance records, allowing 1,535 manufacturers to show off their next-generation instruments, audio gear, and music software to thousands of music store buyers. Once again, I scoured the halls, camera and pocket recorder in hand, to compile an audiovisual gallery of the most interesting products and trends for digital musicians. (See last year's report.)

Again this year, one of the most moving demos I heard was in the DigiTech booth. The company's new Vocalist Live processors, developed by one of the creative geniuses behind IVL's pitch-shifting technology, actually analyze guitar voicings in real time and create vocal harmonies. Here the demonstrator sings a classic song by Todd Rundgren, with all the harmonies generated by a Vocalist Live 4 footpedal. I recorded the demo with my Olympus WS-200S stereo voice recorder and some Sound Professionals in-ear mics and then cleaned up the sound a bit with iZotope Ozone.
