From the Xfce website, dated 17 January 2007:
Xfce 4.4 features new tools such as the much awaited Thunar file manager as well as several huge improvements of its core components.
A visual overview of Xfce 4.4 is available here:

Release candidates of Xfce 4.4 have been the default desktop for Xubuntu Edgy Eft (review) and Dapper Drake (review) as well as Vector Linux 5.8 (review). It has been gaining acceptance as an alternative to KDE and Gnome, at least for those who want a lighterweight, less resource intensive Linux/UNIX desktop environment that is still more than a simple window manager.

Thanks for the head's up. I have never used Xfce but I have to admit I am a bit curious after going through their tour. The bulk renamer that Thunar offers would definitely get a lot of use. :)
Last Friday Vector Linux 5.8 became the first major distro to have Xfce 4.4.0 packaged. It's actually in the patches repository and since Xfce is the default desktop environment anyone running:
gslapt --update
gslapt --upgrade
should end up running the new version.
