So, SCO is going on tour like they’re some kind of rock band. My first reaction to learning this was, “Oh, the protests we could have!” But then the wet pillow of truth smacked me over the head. That’s exactly what they want.
SCO wants media attention. Even the slowest among us has hopefully figured that out by now. They especially like media attention that, at the same time, makes the open source community look bad. I can just see the spin on the protests now. “See, these Linuz zealots are so determined to steal our IP that they’re interfering with our business!”
Let’s not give them any help. However, at the same time, I WOULD like to use this as a catalyst to get the real word out. How to do this without helping SCO? I’m still pondering. For one thing, I’ll revamp my SCO fighting press kit so it’s more up to date and friendlier. From there, perhaps as a community, we could deluge the media in the cities SCO is going to with FRIENDLY submissions of this kit to the technology and other reporters, with explanation that we are trying to help them see “both sides” before they too become a part of SCO’s “dupe the media to pump our stocks and convince people to buy our licenses” campaign.
I’m open to other constructive ideas, here. SCO is no doubt counting on ill thought out vigalante actions to get them more press during the tour. Let’s instead, as a community, rise to the occasion and stick in a little penguin pin, bursting their bubble.
What are your constructive ideas?
