Microsoft has just put out an official list of software applications that are supported on Windows Vista. It’s a long list, but some important and popular programs are missing, including Skype. Slashdot points out that none of Adobe or Symantec’s programs are on the list either, which would seem like some pretty ominous omissions.
It’s not clear to me if this is a beaurecratic/certification issue, or there are genuine issues with running Skype on Vista. If any ETel readers are currently using Skype on Vista, please drop a note in the comment section and tell us how your experience has been so far.

I can't run skype onf vista at all. Vista restarts intself and uninstalls skype. Otherwise the system doesn't run. I can't figure out how to solve the problem.
I'm using Skype under Vista and it works to a point. Obvviuously, the chat and FTP is OK. When talking, however, I can hear an echo with a 2-3 second delay and the audio quality is often very poor. I'm hoping this will be resoplved once a Vita patch is available for Skype.
Sound quality at the received end on Skype Out is next to useless.
I'm using Skype and Vista with Logitech Headphone/mic for two weeks now and it works fine. SetUp instructions must be followed exactly. Now I'm trying to use USR 9620 Adapter with standard phone and US Robotics sez they are working on a Vista fix.
MS has done it again.
They force you to spend money by making other people product obsolete. My experience with shype beta (3.1) simple does not work with vista for more than 2 minutes. The other dise can not hear me talk on the mic. If I had a choice, I would install solaris 10 or debian on my system. I refuse to use any MS Office 2007 products. I made a stance to use everything on the internet and open office.
There must be some true's in this, Vista not being 100% compatible with Skype.
The voice and video quality of Skype cannot be compared with the higher quality of Skype in XP.
Adobe Photoshop is working just fine with Vista, same with latest skype kit downloaded from the official site. So, any other problems dudes? :)
PS. Check your hardware configuration because there might be some conflicts between drivers. Vista is great! Enjoy it!
For anyone using Vista with a microphone/headset trying to make calls on Skype for example: the default gain level of the microphone is set too low. So...
pinkmagicgirl, with you headset connected to the computer, right-click the speaker symbol in the tray (lower right), then left-click 'Recording Devices'. Double-left-click your microphone in the window that appears. Select the 'Levels' tab and move the 'Microphone Boost' slider up to +20.0dB.
Hope that works for you.
Windows Vista mic problem
This works for 30 seconds then fails.
In your Vista go to: Control Panel/Sounds/Recording/Configure
Then configure your Mic.
Control Panel switches back to headset as oppose to keeping the mic settings. Both Visual C++ 6.0 and Visual Studio .NET 2003 complains about being incompatible when launched. Microsoft wants you to throw away all your investments and start new. I'm going back to XP to save some money and in the future going to use Solaris and Linux gcc compilers.
loaded skype on vista but as soon as i searched for contacts it crashed. Vista informed me it would let me know when a suitable driver was available?
launching SkypeSetup.exe (after downloading 'Skype for Windows') on Vista Ultimate leads to "not a valid Win32 application" error.
where did I put that XP disk?.....
Symantec appears to now be supporting Vista for most of their products since the 'official list' was released:
http://www.symantec.com/en/aa/home_homeoffice/support/special/upgrade2007/vista/migration_start.jsp
Skype 3.1 works great under Vista.
performs miserably..crashed four times..each time right after i login..success rate of 30%..
I'm using Skype on vista home premium, which seems to be working fine. The only problem I have found so far, is that when receiving video, it sometimes changes the colour scheme to vista basic, and/or I loose the video stream. This could, of course, be more of a hardware issue than anything to do with Skype?
I can't run skype through vista. It tells me Win32 app not valid. I'm useing the hp dv6000 laptop with built in webcam. I need help asap
I can use skype on vista but not with a skype phone. What a bite. I can use a head set and mic, but not skype phone
I am using the Logitech Notebook Deluxe Webcam in Skype under Windows Vista Home Premium. Sometimes voice works but mostly not. "Skype can not hear you talking"
On the same computer I am running XP on the other partition and there Skype works without any problem. The same applies also to the headset mic. The sound devices in Skype show a correct setup. Anyone having same problems?
There is a conflict with windows mail and skype. If the mailprogram is open in the background and Skype is running the same time, after about 5 min the mail program cannot download new mail and you have to close mail and open it again.
Awful Echos. I have Skype for business version 2.1.32.144
Im using Windows Vista Ultimate. Previously i was on XP Pro with no problems.
Although i use Vonage fixed line VOIP for phone calls, when i am remote i need to talk with Skype, Skype voice is now unuseable and im thinking like many others of "downgrading" back to XP Pro.
Because we have colluegues in Bulgaria, i talked regularly with them on Skype, now its just about 5 echos for each few words, so unuseable now.
Vista is dodgy and should never have been released without Microsoft working with other major vendors to make compatability standard. Although i wouldnt use Linux because its the wrong platform for the major Software vendors, i am comparing this because every 5th or 6 programs i try to install i get an error and it may not install.
To anyone thinking of buying Vista, dont do it, it will only be a terrible experience unless you are one of those users who play only solitaire, do word processing and use Microsofts awful new "Windows Mail" rather than the full (Excellent) Microsoft Outlook 2007.
My Skype ID is gremlinuk if anyone fancies an echo with me.
Have Vista Home Premium. Apparently, not compatible with Skype when using Logitech webcam. I receive images from fellow Skype webcam users who have XP, but my image for them freezes after about 30 seconds. Dell claims it's Skype's problem and there needs to be a patch. Am I alone with this problem?
No luck getting skype fully downloaded on my Vista Home Basic Win 32 problem
No luck getting skype fully downloaded on my Vista Home Basic Win 32 problem
I have downloaded the latest SigmaTel Driver Version 6.10.5405.0 and now Skype works with my Windows Vista Home Premium. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I keep on trying to get skype to work with vista, downloading the newest version once a week ~.~* at the moment I got the version 3.0.0.216. what happens is that I can hear others talking, but they start to hear extremly loud disturbances after a few minutes..
when running skype on vista, Its causing my IE7 to lock up.
Skype works to a point. When a connection starts, SKYPE begins to use 100% of my CPU. Video is very choppy like there is not enough processing power or network problems. I also get echoes but do not know if that is caused by 100% CPU ussage either. Also do not know if it is Logitech's drivers that is making Skype use all of the CPU time.
Using Skype 3.1 with Vista Business and Plantronics headset. Works fine, no issues.
I'm using Skype on Vista and I experience some problems. The biggest problem is the processor ussage even when I'm not speaking with anyone. When I speak and take a look at the task manager the processor usage i about 100% and i can't anything else with my computer...
Aparently there seems to be a problem with the way that vista handles sound recording outside of its "voice recognition" I usually depend on Skype to talk to a live audience while i am broadcasting through winamps shoutcast service. The microphone output quality is just plain horrendus. I hope they explain what is the problem or patch it so other apps could use the mic too.
Skype does not work on Vista at all, I have tried everything, even buying a USB phone!!
Very Annoying, I hope they are working on a Fix ASAP!!!
anybody having problems with making vista and skype work is you right click on the skype desktop shortcut and then go compatibility and tick the box which says run this program in compatibilty mode for windows xp sp2 and then go show settings for all users and tick the same box again and apply and it should work
Using 2 PC's one with XP Pro and one with Vista Business as Networking Setup, but only one Account will operate with camera and both with audio. Result PC with XP audio is 100% with Skype, no video. With Vista Skype is totally hopeless, it cuts out contact repeatedly, video is poor and audio is most of the time badly distorted and broken up. Shame on you Bill Gates.
Skype works with vista but does crash periodically. You notice it leaves a shadow of the window on the background. Siemens Gigaset (VOIP M34) are also yet to catch up with vista it appears. The sound controls from speakers in vista seem to overide the the skpe sound controls too. Come on Skype and Siemens sort it out...
I have skype loaded with Vista but when I call someone I can hear them but they can't hear me. Help would be appreciated. Not a computer wiz so please give me 'computer for dummmies' instructions
I downloaded Skype into my new Vista machine, and can dial out
OK, but the microphone shows a constant "muted" icon and I cannot get it to unmute.
i installed skype v 3.1, the first day everything was good ,i tested the speaker and headset and they work properly, but then every time i start skype a warning message that says'this computer has no sound capabilties for skype' i'm looking for solution
I can't call by skype with vista. CPU was always 100% usage when I put a call.
Using Vista Basic Home Edition and Skype 3.0 (I believe) and logitech Quickcam comunnicate stx plus, you start the call and after a few mins it disconnects and says audio device not recognised. Have checked setting and driver but to no avail. ANyone any idea?
I don't have problems at all with Skype on Vista. I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit and Skype 3.1. I'm sure if somebody has 64-bit Vista version there is going to be major problems. I have Logitech Communicate STX with Skype support.
Terrible experience with skype on vista... it would not install ... how stupid microsoft is...
my first was vista basic.. i managed to run it on that platform but i upgraded to premium which did not accept it .. this is a stupid OS ...
This user sees no reason to upgrade to Vista for the forseeable future, I find it crazy that you would release an OS that doesn't run Adboe or Symantec programs.
I just downloaded & installed Skype 3.1 on my new laptop working on Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit and it works perfect!
skype installed ok, chat works but calls keep getting dropped! I do not know how to fix this (firewall on or off same problem)
Hi everyone, we experienced rather similar problems: most of it-> the built-in miccrophone did not function as it should. We struggled for more than 2 days to set it properly but...Finally we decided to uninstall SKYPE and install it again...when we saw SKYPE 3,2 Beta version. It seems to be working quite OK...for now! So, try the new Beta version called SKYPE 3,2
I don't think it's just skype that Vista is messing up - on my brand-new Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook with Vista, it won't even pick up my microphone at all. My microphone is (also) brand-new. It's a logitech, and it apparently doesn't work, but when I try it on another computer with Windows XP, it works like a charm. Word to the wise - don't upgrade to Vista. It's confusing, the security thing is really annoying, and worst of all, my microphone doesn't work. What's up with that?
Cannot get th microphone to work on skype using vista any ideas
Skype is working good. However, I've had to adjust the mic for it. the MIC didn't work when I cannected it to the front panel. However, it works ok with Rear panel
Windows Vista Home Premium, using skype 3.1.0.152. Program starts fine, video works, but no sound at all.
Installed webcam and skype yesterday on my new vista machine - had sound but no video. Have just logged on today, now have video but no sound, and the microphone icon on my logitech webcam is now permanently greyed out. I've checked the level under the recording devices and its fine, so I can't figure the problem out.
Just found out what was causing the problem - under the Sound Devices option in Skype, the Audio In device wasn't my webcam microphone. So I selected my webcam mic from the drop-down list and now its working. Oh how I love Vista...
I have been using Skype 3.1 on my new laptop (HP Pavillon 9000 with built in mic and webcam) working on Windows Vista Home Premium and it works perfect.
today i just download skype 3.1.0.1.52,.and it works great on vista ultimate,.i have a excellent call with my asus notebook's mic.I guest skype just fixed in this version.nb. i use skype to call to singapore from indonesia
Some seeming to claim that 3.1 is fine on Vista. Which isn't true, for me anyway. Running latest now, 3.1.0.152, on a new Sony Vaio running Vista Home Premium, and it's nice enough to be blue-screening my computer on occasion. Took me a bit to figure out it was Skype, too. Microsoft is sickening in its practices, but in this case, Skype had plenty of forewarning about Vista, and it's a living app, constantly being updated. This is as much Skype's fault and more. Disgusting frankly.
Since installing skype into my vista ultimate my skype application reboot the computer when I'm taking ove the phone or computer. This is a big issue for me because I'm not using regular phone anymore and this is the only way family can get in touch with me. If I still having this issue I will have to change to Vonage. I have test the system and ultimate work properly with it.
I'm using Skype under Vista. The user at the other end cannot hear me. This is very big deal since this is the way I comunicate with friends and family abroad.
I had to un-install skype since it kept giving me multiple issues running on vista home premium edition
I have vista and I thinks this windows sucks is cost me 3 times boot my computer because my dvd and cd was not working I like to remove the vista and back to XP but I don't know how?
Ted
Im useing Skype 3.1 and its working alright for the most part. I had to turn up my MIC gain because noone could here me talk. I did have a problem in which everytime i would do anything on the computer other than just sit and look at skype, the people chatting in skypecast would crackle. But i updated my realtek HD drivers and its fine now.
got skype 3.0 and it likes to crash my laptop about 5min into a call. MS are being bastards
Vista does not recognize any of my input devices, skype phone, headset, or mic. I've downloaded all of the latest drivers but nothing works. Any ideas?????
Skype installed ok on my machine. Headphones work, but the microphone doesn't work. Also, every time I switch to another webpage using IE, I get a warning message that Skype wants to access web content.
Skype 3.0x adds a new feature called Automatic Gain Control (AGC) to control Mic level, but in Vista, this always sets Mic to zero.
The fix is to set 0 in Shared.xml and Config.xml, which are populated only when a Skype account is created.
At the time, Skype 3.1 was said to be Vista-OK, but was in beta. Now 3.1x is out, but still not Vista-OK; we're told that 3.2x will be, but again, that's in beta. Bleh.
A more significant non-starter is the free Nero Express 6 that comes bundled even with the latest S-ATA DVD writers. Nero just wants to shove Nero 7 Ultimate at you, which is feeware (very).
i have windows vista and when i use skype i can hear the person im calling but they cant hear me.
I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A NEW HP NOTEBOOK P.C.... I TRAVEL LOTS AND I WAS HOPING TO USE SKYPE TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH LOVED ONES, ... I WAS NOT AWARE THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE, IT SEEMS A BIT RIDICULOUS THAT I AM UNABLE TO GET IT, VISTA IS THE NEWEST WINDOWS OUT THERE, IM PRETTY UPSET SO I HOPE YHEY WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT COMPATIBLE SOON. X FROM DISSAPOINTED DUCKLING OF THE COMPUTER WORLD.
Hi, I tried several times to use Skype on Vista. The connection can be established (even with video) and maintained for several minutes.
Then the wireless connection to my router is being disconnected and I have to reconnect again. My internet access is usually stabile and I've never ever problems with it, unless I try to call somebody via Skype.
I'm open for suggestions.
Photoshop Elements Ver4 reports a compatibility fault with Vista, but version 5 is fine and works well.
I got a new HP laptop with a Vista system. The last thing you wanna do, is dowloading the SKYPE on your computer. I had to re-format my hard disk due to the system in my laptop got tremendously SLOW. It was taking almost 15 minutes to start and about 5 minutes to open a web page. Please be aware of this problem. HP call center said that we can't download anything that is not VISTA aproved.
i just downloaded skype from there offical site on windows vista ultimate, it works fine untill now, i can search for users, make calls without echo or anything, the voice is clear, every thing is normal like i used on XP pro, try it on ur vista, i hope it will work directly
i have skype on vista, and all works but the feature to call normal phones is there too, but skype crashes when i try to make a pc to landline call =(, can someone please come up with a solution, i pay money to use skypw, and now it's usless to me

My Skype works fine on Vista for the most part, except for right when I try to call someone. It also will occasionally disconnect me while I'm talking. It disconnects me from the internet somewhat - the only program that stays connected and works during this time is IRC. After a few minutes it goes back up, but I don't know what is causing the problem. My wireless connection is usually fine aside from the times I try to use Skype. Anybody know what could be causing the issue?
I just got a vista PC - and skype sucks on it...serious issues running it that I never experienced prior..Im really pissed about it
window vista is not doing good job with skypee, it keep geting disconnected all the time, it is hard to stay online for more than one minute
it sucks, I will not recomend window vista
skype works fine on my vista software, but throws my explorer out of whack. I've had to restart explorer 4 times since i started typing this losing all of this and having to type it again, but faster.
I have just got my self a vista ultimate pc, will skype work on it. skype is great, but if it wont work then i will be seriously annoyed.

I regret buying a new laptop with vista premium, all sorts of problems including Skype. I wish I had purchased a Mac instead. I may reinstall XP on the new PC. I get disconnected whne accessing Skype
Damn Microsoft, you are going to lose your audience

I just got a new PC desktop with Vista Home, installed skype, and found the other party cannot hear me (I am using a Logitech USB microphone). Initially, I could hear the other party, but then that cut out too. After some exasperation, I took the same mic and tried it on my laptop which has XP. No problems. It seems many of us consider this a MAJOR problem. Perhaps it's compatible with Vista ULTIMATE and not Vist Home, and I also saw various entries pertaining to Logitech mics and Vista being not compatible???
I run skype on Vista but i have problems with it disconnecting all the time . Its wierd because the webbrowser stops working aswell but other programs that are using Internet connections are still online. I have to reboote to fix the problem. It never happens if i have Skype turned of.
MY PHILLIPS VOIP 321 HAS VISTA UPDATE BUT SKYPE WILLNOT CONNNECT WITH THE PHONE (GOOD OLD MICROSOFT ) WOT A LOAD OF CRAP FROM THEM
MY PHILIPS VOIP 321 PHONES WILL NOT RUN WITH SKYPE IN VISTA
GOOD OLD MICROSOFT A LOAD OF CRAP
I just purchased a new HP 6000 series Pavilion desk top unit loaded with Visat Home Premium and am on line thru a sat provider (Dishmail.net). Normal internet radio and video come thru just fine so I assume I do not have a u/l-d/l issue. I have been trying to get Skype to function for weeks now...uninstalling it and reinstalling it several times as well. Disabling Norton and or Windows firewalls doesn't help. Using Cyber Acoustics Headset and boom mic. When I call the Skype test call, it rings ok and the test voice gets about 2-3 words out and then the language starts to "clip" where it's not understandable. I called a friend that is Skyped up and had the same issue with him and he, me. What is up with this deal. Is Skype working on a deal where Vista will run it? Damn Microsoft anyway
Got vista a month ago. I HATE IT. Can not use my head set or any thing. Wish I had my old xp back. What a BIG mistake I made.

I am able to install and run Skype but the video never starts
i using vista home basic, it worked fine at the beginning but now always popup program no responding at the middle while using it i think is something about DEP (Data Execution Protection)
I found Logitech doesn't want to write Vista support for their older Communicate webcam (I bought less than 2 years ago), their website basically says to go buy a newer product from them. Sucks, the webcam worked just fine with XP before the upgrade to Vista.
Nathan, Hi!
You say, "No problems with skype. It runs great, the video, and sound are both superior to xp." That's great news. How did you do it? Please advise. Thank you.
Hi i just got my new brand dell inspiron 6400 first day i install skype 3.2.0.158 i did some calls but like 5 minutes in a call vista reboot i did again skype call and 5 minutes later again reboot. 3 times more i did again but this time exit skype and havent reboot yet after 50 minutes and running i have vista home basic. and i want to use skype but i know it would reboot again. so if a patch or solution is available please share it

So far Skype works
But with much more skipping and lagging during a call.
Even with high speed. One would think skype is on a Dailup account
i can send and receive and hear calls but the called party can't hear me
So has anyone found a fix for the Vista Skype problems? So annoying that when someone starts a skype chat with me my internet connection just dies on me. it takes a few resets of the network to get it to work again.
My brother is using Skype on his laptop that is running Vista. So far no problems. He is using the latest version of Skype.
i've just got a new computer with vista on it and it wont register my voice.

Skype doesn't support application sharing in Vista. It reports a script error and does not list the applications.
I have an HP pavillion dv2000 with build-in webcam and mic.
skype is installed on my vista home premium.
making call and using internal mic and speaker, the voice is clear and crisp.
I have skype plugin for IE installed. whenever i click on a phone number on a website, the call will go thru smoothly until i ended the call, an error message will show up saying skype has crashed.
i don't think skype is supported in vista.
in this case, i totally believe it is skype who decided not to test or upgrade their software to support vista.
Works great on my Vista Business Lenovo X61 tablet. Using latest version.
I have new Dell XPS M1210 notebook with built in logitech webcam with mic. Have skype beta 3.5 installed. I can send SMS and chat but whenever I ring someone or they ring me it states "cannot connect to this business user please check audi setting and make sure you have the right microphone connected' Is this a skype/vista conflict or a problem with the microphone of the built in webcam? Who knows, but I've tried an independant mic and that doesn't work either. Might be a problem with logitech microphones?! Anyone got any ideas?
Tried to download and run both skype and the beta version but vista will not install either. Several attempts - same result.

i have been trying to get my logitech headset/microphone to work on my notebook that has Vista, but no one can hear me. i've configured and tested the headset in windows. it says it's fine. i've tested it with skype's automated caller and i get my voice played back and i can see it register, but the mic icon says it's on mute and that i can't be heard. no matter what i do, i can't seem to fix the problem
I have an older version of skype on vista (3.1 something) and am experiencing very bad problems. I will start up skype and then after talking for about 2 minutes will have a blue screen and have to restart my computer :( very annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!
got a problem with my internet explorer 7
Once Skype is installed with Vista - IE does not close properly
I HAVE SKYPE RUNNING BUT NEED MY SPEAKERS AND LOGITECH CAMERA MICROPHONE TO DO IT.
MY USB SKYPE HANDSET WILL NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. IT WORKED FINE ON XP HOME.
I'm using Skype (V.3.2) with Vista (Business) and a logitech headset. The sound quality is horrible, it skips in and out. The issue looks to be that for some reason Skype is taking up a huge amount of CPU in Vista, for some reason, no matter how many programs you close, it cannot get enough CPU. It even says right on Skype that you have to close programs, even if nothing else is running. This seems to be the source of the Skype issues.
I can't run skype through vista. It tells me Win32 app not valid.
I have just bought a new PC with Vista home Premium installed. I have tried many times to download Skype 3.2 but always get the same Win32 error message. Any suggestions?
Running windows vista on Dell laptop with skype & logitech headphones & camera. Calls are fine but cannot migrate history of chats, and when someone asks to join my contact list that doesn't always appear unless I click on their name.

Windows Vista Home Basic, skype 3.2 installation and running are fine. But every time I try to login, skype will break the internet connection that I need to restart system to repair it. With the same internet cable, I can login skype in XP and it works fine.
For Realtek device, install this: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/REALTEK/Realtek-HD-Audio-Codec-Driver-R163.shtml
In Control Panel, open Realtek HD Audio Manager and in the Microphone tab, adjust the "Microphone Boost".
I run Skype on Vista Business. It works good, but from time to time windows restarts without any information, just like there was some kind of power stop... I can't find any information about this problem...
I am trying Skype 3.5 Beta and in the few times I tried, it has worked so far without problems.
Using Vista Ultimate on a MacBook Pro.
They've released a beta for vista
im runnig skype, its kinda lagy, and a lot of bugs also
I try to use skype 3.something with vista home premium, and it doesn't work. i'm using wireless, and if i try to connect skype, it screws up the connection and cannot use the web browser (connection timed out or so) after that i have to reboot my system to connect ot the web
I am disgusted with Skype. Having encouraged all my friends to download it, I find that when I now contact them, Skype (latest version) freezes the picture, then crashes my new Toshiba Laptop, which is running Vista home Premium. I use it with a Logitech Notebook webcam. No practical use whatsoever! If anyone can help with this, please e-mail me at cujimmy@cytanet.com.cy
Skype 3.2 works just fine. I'm using a HP Pavilion DV9000 series, and home premium. It works perfectly. You may not have the sufficent requirements, try freeing up some memory.
I am using Skype with Vista and it has caused Internet Explorer to go completely unstable. Vista itself seems unaffected. Thank Turing for Mozilla Firefox, which hasn't skipped a beat!
Geez Vista Sux im swithcing to someother before windows fix this shit up
I can use Skype on Vista (Home Premium), but sometimes it will not allow me to sign in (connection problems). Restarting my network sometimes works. Other times I have to restart the computer. I would not recommend Skype on Vista (stick to XP).
Windows vista ultimate installed in a toshiba qosmio is not working. after some minutes in operation skype is not active anymore, i need to restart my laptop to get back in service
Have a Presario V3000 HP notebook and am running SKYPE on it - works fine. Have no problems with it (except for the once in the blue moon cut out whilst I am talking) and quality is great. Can do everything on it. Am using a COSY HS581BSFD headset with it. Feel sorry for the people it doesnt work for.

Vista is not ready for use, almost anything causes it to crash, SKYPE, Norton Anti Virus, Yahoo Messenger, Internet Explorer.
SKYPE is a great program, does anyone know of fix to make it work with VISTA?
I used skype for a long time. I used to talk to a friend of mine in germany. He has a page at http://www.oekoadressen.de
if you install the plugin to call directly from internet explorer you will have some problems. The last skype has that plugin in its own so internet explorer won't work properly.
when i open skype on vista, it always says "skype can not connect internet". i dont know what can i do, because my internet has been connected.
Since I bought VISTA(10 DAYS AGO) I have been experiencing WINDOWS SHAT DOWNS on the middle of my conversation. Quite frustating! I never had problems with XP!

Hi
I have Skype on Vista. It works ok with version 3.0.0.228 (?)but the later version is appalling and on this version you have to reset the sound options every call and often drops out. But at least it is operational. I do have all the "allow program to contraol settings" options unchecked - which I recomment to other users.
The chat works fine, but when I close an IE window I get a skype plugin error. It still closes eventually, more a hassle than anything.
whay should i do to run skype on vista
everyone please upgrade your vista to xp
I am unable to download Sykpe to my Lenovo X61 running Vista. Any help would be appreciated.
I can instal and use skype with windows vista, but once I turn off the computer, the next time I start the computer I cannot work on the internet at all until I uninstal skype. It shows that I am connected to the internet, but the computer will not access anything on the internet, including skype.
I am running skype on vista using Altec lansing head set it works ok except for delay in sound and picture quality is not to good I wqant to use a skype phone but can only find a couple that say they work with vista
I could not close the web page when I installed the Skype program. The web page pops up by itself. After I remove the SKype program, the computer seemed works normal.
I own a top-of-the-range Vaio laptop which was originally fitted out with Windows XP. Last month I replaced XP with Vista. Big mistake! Unlike my experience with previous versions of Windows, Vista presented me with many problems, e.g. non-availability of drivers (incl Intel) and poorly functioning key software programmes such as Symantec and Acrobat. Surprisingly, even Microsoft's own Outlook suffers from recurring hiccups never experienced before. I realise that the tendency now exists to apportion the blame for any bugs to Vista even where this may not be correct. Notwithstanding several attractive new features, Microsoft scored an own goal by prematurely launching Vista and inadequate prior co-ordination with key hardware and software manufacturers.
Wanted to download the latest version of Skype: v.3.5.0.202 The Skype site says that 'you need a PC running on Windows 2000 or XP. Has anyone downloaded this on a PC running on Vista? If so, what's your experience?
I had the latest 3.5.0.2 installed on Vista Home Premium and it refused to work. I had an earlier version working fine, but I think a Microsoft update has screwed Skype. Pity skype management don't pay attention to this forum and look at fixing this. Vista is not going away (Pity).
Skype was running fine on Vista untill I downloaded new security updates yesteday. Now it does not connect anymore.
For first 3 to 4 Skype was fine on Vista. Then something happened and now Skype is not responding. I tried to uninstall and then reinstall with no avail. Vista sucks and so does Microsoft. Bill do not force 2007 on me. Linux guys -- step up, we need your help to kill this sucker (Microsoft).
There now seem to be problems.
Since the recent download of Windows updates, not only won't Skype work on my (Vista Home Premium) box, it stops both Firefox and Thunderbird from working as well, as long as it remains minimised in my tray. It also causes my ATI video driver to throw erpeated errors.
i am usin windows vista, and i experience lots of problems whle making video calls with my friends who r in usa..i am usin broadband 256kps speed..and its gettin cut evry 10 secs wen i chat..and my friends connection speed is uploadin 12megabytes and downloadin 13 megabytes.. its really annoying.. kindly tell a solution to fix this problem..my audio codec is sigmatel..i am usin a dell laptop.my friends cannot hear me properly and the videocall is gettin cut.?
Same here.. As soon as I downloaded that Vista updates, my Skype stopped working. Had to remove it.

Somteims it works, sometimes it doesnt, sometimes it is just the sound, or just the picture, or neither, I can sometimes hear and or see the other perosn or not at all. i never know what i am going to gte. What I dont get is clear communication like I had before with XP/. So frustrating. Any solutions???

I am using Skype on Vista but only Chat and Webcam accessible. I've tried all sorts of Mic & Headset without success. Wishing a proper Skype for Vista soon available.
Maybe this has been resolved since the article was written and many of the above comments were posted. Perhaps this was via some combination of Vista patches and newer versions of Skype. I just installed Skype a few weeks ago in Vista Ultimate without a snag. I didn't follow any sort of specialized instructions. I just installed it, plugged in a microphone, and went to work with it. Reception is fine on my end, and I'm going through clearly to those on the other end (also running Vista). I've successfully used it with both a standard el-cheapo desktop microphone with the standard 1/8" Mini plug, and a Logitech USB headset.
Vista and Skype are not compatible. They were working prior to last week's massive Skype outage and MS update, but not anymore. Since it was MS who did the update it's probably something they introduced but it's up to Skype to fix it. It's amazing to me that they haven't. As others have reported it breaks the internet connection for other apps as well. I've repeated this on multiple vista machines with Skype 3.5 on the same network where the same Skype version works fine on XP. Specifically, here's what I've seen:
1. Install Skype 3.5
2. Skype works fine. IE, Firefox, email all connect.
3. Put system in hibernate.
4. Wake it up.
5. Now nothing connects. If you're using DHCP you will no longer have an IP address. ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew will give you one successfully. I'm able to run nslookup and ping and resolve domain names, but none of the browsers, skype or email clients will be able to connect. I'm also unable to kill Skype without it restarting as a tray app and again hanging.
6. Reboot and Skype and everything else will be able to connect.
Go back to version 2.0.0.17 and the connection issues go away. The issue may be the Aug 17th 3.5.x.x release so there are probably a number of prior versions you could go back to.
I use an new acer laptop Aspire 7520G with Vista home premium and built in camera. Skype 3.5 works ok BUT NOT VIDEO IT DOSENT WORK. But install old skype 2.5 then it works.

I have Skype and have used for 1-1/2 year never a problem and in the last 2 weeks with my home computer with windows vista which was installed approx 2 months ago. Every time i close a window says windows internet explorer shutting down says reporting problem and says restarting again then the very next time same thing driving me NUTZ and i am already there!!! mabee it is my Skype please let me know I need help who do I bitch too and I will.
I get the BSOD everytime I login to skype and start a voice call on Windows Vista. I have installed the latest version released on August 29th, 2007 but I still find Skype not approved for Vista which is very strange.
Yea had the same frustrating problem as another individual i.e "launching SkypeSetup.exe (after downloading 'Skype for Windows') on Vista Ultimate leads to "not a valid Win32 application" error."
I'm using Skype on Vista and everything works fine except for sound ajustments (lots of noice in the background...).
Hi all, I ran skype on XP home with no bother at all, now running XP & Vista on duel boot, installed skype this morning on vista no problem at all (ver 3.1) within half an hour i was talking to a guy in Beijing China, whoopy-doo you might think but I'm a complete newbie at this kinda stuff, big deal for me anyway I've just tried to install skype back on XP Home & it's giving me that "not valid Win32 App"? It ran fine before, so if anyone see's Bill Gates out & about, do me a favour & kick his ass. lol
I have just replaced a bespoke XP AMD machine with an HP Pavilion HDX 9030 with Vista. I downloaded the latest release of Skype and logged in. The Audio Options were all set to Windows Default. Imagine then my surrise when I made a test call and nothing came out of the speakers although the microphone was picking me up fine and the speakers work fine in iTunes. Why can't things just WORK first time in Vista... it's becoming like Linux where you have to join a hundred forums to confiure your everyday applications.
I have been using vista and skype version 3.2, with no issues including sound and video. I am using a logitech orb with a built in mic that worked very well untill i took an update from skype (ver 3.5) and I also took an update from logitech, in which afterwards, skype and my orb no longer is stable enough to use, and at this point skype wont eve let me log on. it just hangs there. 3 uninstalls, 3 fresh installs of both programs, nothing worked. I am looking for the old version but everytime i try and download skype 3.2, it takes me to 3.5. HELP!!!!LOL
I am having a hard time hearing others on Skype. My laptop's OS is Vista. I am having a lot of issues with VISTA and other software that I was able to use before (with XP). Vista is awful!!!
I have just purchased a new Medion computer with Windows Vista. Last week I purchased a Siemen's model which I returned because the sound wasn't working at all. Now I am having microphone issues with this Medion model. The recorded sound is very weak. I cannot use Skype. In each case one of the first things I did was install Skype and my dual phone. I have concluded that the dual phone is not compatible with Vista, but I am even more annoyed that I can't even use Skype with headphones and microphone. I have tried recording my voice with the Vista sound recorder and saving it as a wma file to playback later. The sound is still too weak, although the recording volume is set to maximum.
I used skype 1.4 on xp and it worked fine. The more recent skype crashed xp regularly.
now even 1.4 crashes on vista.
problems in skype are difficult to outline since their servers themselves seem to crash now.
i can hear the person, but with video, i get a still image of the first frame when we pick up and it does not change.
Well... I can use skype even with Miranda, however, outlook 2003 is blocked everytime that e-mails are coming or going, or, when the calendar popups, etc. Not good. I need to exit skype and then outlook works.
I am running Skyp on Vista basic and have no problems with locking up with that but it locks up for any number of reasons that I don't know why
Hi! I've been using Vista since the beta version and I never had a problem. One thing I noticed was the picture wasn't that clear anymore. It's definitely not my video card and/or pc. I think the application crash experience is due to the network unstability since I talk for 2-3 hours straight with video and voice without major delays or feedback.
Vista Ultimate
Skype Version 3.5.0.234
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU 2.4 @ 3.2GHZ

I'm using Skype on Vista Home Basic and I found the following two problems.
1) The sound of the mic is quite low and even I have adjected it to the max.
2) Skype is always busy that it can't connect to the receiver when using SkypeOut and whenever it's successfully connected, the line will suddenly cut and disconnected and can't be resumed the connection within a couple of hours.
Is there anynone knows what's going on?
running skype 3.5 (downloaded 22 sept 07 on Vista with all the latest downloads. Had some snags with microphone not working. Uninstall and reinstall microphone drivers. Only continuing proble is that i can't use my Vtech USB7100 cordless phone for Skype, not compatible with vista. Anyone know of a cordless phone that will work with skype/vista??
My internet explorer keeps restarting itself ever since I downloaded Skype. Skype doesn't even have to be running for this to happen. Skype itself is working good. I am running Windows Vista Basic on a new laptop. After adding Skype to my other compputer there were internet explorer problems within 20 minutes.I think I will have to uninstall Skype and use yahoo or msn for audio chat!
So? What's the solution?
Skype is great....when it's not freezing my computer and restarting my IE.....had to uninstall and re-install....still same problem.

I cant run many of my fav programs on vista.
Vista,s support is poor even if you try run old programs on vista using run as xp mode they still wont run.
Vista sucks
I received these instructions from Skype Support when I had problems install Skype 3.5 with Window Vista Home Premium.
First - Please install Skype as always. Then follow these steps: 1. Open Internet Explorer.2. Go to Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-on.3. Find the SkypeIE Plug-in, click it and select Disable.4. Close and open the browser in order for changes to take effect.
I have a US Robotics Skype phone and it seems to be working OK. It even works with the new Skype Video Feature.
it's working fine with vista
It has been a nightmare to try and use Skype on Vista. The IE never shuts down OR the IE keep inteerrupting downloads. Glad i saw your note on this subject. shall shift to my other PC which has XP.
I am trying to use Skype with Vista. WE can see and hear the other party but they can only hear us. Skype does not appear to turn our camera on - The camera works perfect with other applications but not Skype - Anyone have an idea as to what I can do to solve this?

SKYPE!! I have a new HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop an loaded Skype. Initially it seemed to work although not used much. Since, it has caused me nightmares. Clicking on any link on standard web pages would cause the Internet to lock up and after a minute or so a Skype error message would appear asking that it be emailed on to Skype. This I did and was told that I was not running the latest version of Skype (3.5) and that upgrading to this version would solve all the problems..I did so and it has just got worse. Tonight I removed Skype from my laptop. Having paid for Skype credit I then tried to reload Skype 3.5 however can't do so as clicking on any download button of the Skype website (and I have tried them all) again locks the internet. With credit outstanding any help anyone can offer would be gratefully received (mjoules@gmail.com). Think twice before YOU download...the internet is practically unusable now! Look forward to hearing from you. Mark
My laptop came with Vista and I have spent an unbelievable amount of frustrating time trying firstly to use my headset with Windows Live Messenger and getting a continual echo everytime I make a call. Having read all these comments I won't even try to download Skype now as I am sure I would get more of the same. My friends have EX and everything works perfectly. What a rort this is!
Whoops meant to type XP not EX!
i've had an account with Skype but had not used it since changing to a new computer and VISTA (from XP). Skype did not transfer over. When i try to download Skype.....it just doesn't happen......goes back to the download page where it says you must have 2000 or XP. how did Vista users get Skype installed?
Constant loss of picture and sound and being cut off, when Skyping outside the U.K. When will this problem be sorted!?
I'm truing to find a set of headphones to use on skype that are Vista compatible -- no chance - feeling fed up with this Windows Vista package.
I use Skype on Vista Home Premium 32 bit and have no problem whatsoever.
Hello
Can someone help me? I have Vista and when I start skype, my network connection with the internet disapears. What could be? how can i solve this problem?
Please if someone knows help me.. :( my e-mail zuikule0919@gmail.com

I have skype 3.5 running on Vista and when I attempt to log on, it just kills my internet connection. While I do not know which of the two to blame for the issue, it is very aggravating for someone simply trying to call his family back home in the States.
Skype is working fine on my Vista powered Dell laptop in voice mode. Video works pretty well too, but periodically locks up and the video has to be stopped and restarted. This happens under XP as well, so I don't think its a Vista problem.
Every time I run Skype on my Vaio labtop the Colour Scheme changes to low and funny colours. I have to re-personalize the screen setting to a high resolution. Please advise

i use skype with my webcam. the person im talking to can see me, although sometimes the image cuts out. but i cannot see them at all, just a black screen where their videostream should be.
I am running Skype on Vista Ultimate and it works fine. However, like many other people I am having problems with microphone quality.
hello
i'm on windows vista ultimate and did delete skype from it because every time i would ask fore help on something skype would open about 20-30 windows on my computer i guess i will wait until its good for vista
Hi there ! My name is rudi and i am engineer in the yachting world! Unfortunately i had to buy a new laptop, a sony vaio vgn-fe41m and it came with this P***poor vista and that is where all the problems started. With XP-pro never any problems now this criminal beta version of a microsoft b***sh** is not even capable to use my XP files nor my newly bought 3 in one HP-PSC 1610 printer and i could ad to the list of discomfort more every day.Letters and e-mails to f****n company evry day but no reply what so ever.I got skype running but only with the help of a wizzkid. sorry to waste your time but please feel free to drop me a line on my e-mail ruvobema@wanadoo.fr
im using yahoo messenger but when i use the webcam feature...my internal webcam only shows black screen...
Shame on Bill Gates? Really?! Everything is clearly Microsoft's fault. Microsoft should cater to the hundreds of thousands of applications developed for their legacy OS's. Everyone please revert back to DOS. Excellent.. let's stop time in 2000, and stay here forever... because its perfect! Also, dear Intel... please re-enable compiler optimizations for legacy processors. We loved those pentium II chips!
Skype needs to release a vista compatible version.
My Skype 3.2 (on Vista Enterprise) just stopped working, wouldn't open, so I uninstalled it and tried installing 3.5 and get constant error message 1603 and when I "solve" that I just get another error message to do with permission to a .swf file I have tried everything I know and can find on the web. I have credit on Skype which I will lose in 6 days unless I can re install and make a simple call. BTW how can they take my money?? if you have any ideas please email j.weedy@iln.org.uk Thanks
This problem with Skype/Vista cannot be blamed on Skype, when MS bring out a new OS, they're not noted for ringing round their competitors to check if their software will be compatible, remember to MS every other developer of computer software is a competitor. Also remember that MS depends on millions of unwitting testers for its new Operating Systems, you the buying public, it is always best to wait at least 2 years until you switch to a new MS operating system.
Skype will run on our vista our daughter can see us but we can only get a still picture of her when she first connects with us. I am getting more and more frustrated with my vista all the time.
I have Skype running on Vista. I had a Linksys CIT200 with Skype on XP -- but that PC failed. I bought a new PC (Toshiba Satellite with that crap MS Vista OS) -- and the Linksys CIT200 does not have a driver for Vista. It is not that Vista cannot run Skype; the problem is that the phones do not have drivers for Vista.
After the above, I went out and bought a Philips 321 as you mention -- and it worked with Vista Home Premium -- but has stopped working when I simply upgraded to Vista Ultimate. I have no idea why. I am getting support from Philips here in Australia (I am a US citizen for now living in Australia).
Vista is the biggest pain in the ass software. NO ONE should buy it! F#$@ Microsoft for not ensuring programs worked with their OS before they release such shit.
Shame on Microsoft.
I'm using Skype under Vista (Audio- videa call), and it was working fine, till recently i can not use the built-in camera; when i checked the camera, its giving me that the camera is blocked by other application!!! I don't know what to do in order to proceed with my video calls
Vista Ultima English 32 bit version + Skype v3.5
CPU usage go up to 100% whenever talking is going on.
And the quality is bad.
PS: my cpu is 2.6 G Celeron.
i am a complete beginner and i purchased packardbell bl2380 with vista home premium trying to use logitech quickcam all i get from pb is that it is skypes fault, between the lot of them i!m getting nowhere, can someone amongst all the brains help me
i think skype on vista can work but can brake audio device like i had
About everytime I chat with my son using skype, vista crashes. I just got a notice from Microsoft that there was a download to fix the problem. I downloaded the file, but it would allow me to install it.
I can do everything in Skype....but, whenever I am talking the other person can't hear me, but I can hear the other person talking.
I can do everything in Skype....but, whenever I am talking the other person can't hear me, but I can hear the other person talking. It says my input level is too low..... How can I increase my input level?
I've a dell inspiron 1520. Audio drivers need to be reinstalled every once and again or the microphone won't be recognized (vista is to blame, not skype). Moreover, incoming video freezes. To see the other person, try to take snapshots (these work).
I get this msg: When people cannot hear me on Skype. But, I can hear them.
skype cannot hear you talking Input level is low
Help!
My continuing problem is speakers being automatically muted when starting a call even the free call to test. I can hear the sign in sound, can test the call sounds, but make a call and the speakers get muted. Skype say they do not have a problem at their offices. There's a surprise.
Skype sort of worked with Vista initially, but it suddenly developed a loud background hum and now every time I talk the mic fades out. I paid for Skype Unlimited so I'm screwed unless I do something. Vista is crapware and a Big Brother nightmare nicing you to death by "helping" until nothing works. It changes my settings! I don't think it's secure either and it tried to stop me from downloading AdAware but I kept surfing sites until I found one that worked. I'm pricing XP, which is a disgrace because Vista came with a new laptop. Bottom line: Vista sucks!
I use Skype with Vista. I don't use most of the available features on Skype, just the free phone (and the chat when I'm talking with someone who doesn't have a mic), but no problems really. I actually have to rely on the other person to start the texting kind of conversation, because I can't seem to find that button any more, but once he starts typing, I'm able to reply.
I have been reading about the Vista Logitech Skype relationship. For me they do not work well together. I have gone back to using my XP machine - it is a pleasure after Vista. A Vista patch for Skype would be great but ya know I think I am either going to improve on my ability to use Linux or go to a MAC.
Hi, I've a HP Pavillion 9000. Video ok, audio ko since V3.2
I can't figure out how to solve the problem.
Vista is to blame, not skype.

If two people talking through Skype have the latest version (3.6) everything "should" work.
I have sktpe installed on vista, but all my contacts appear to permanently off-line. Very Very BAD....
I have the latest version (3.6) and I am a nano-second from flinging the f*****g b*****x out the f*****g window..ARGHHHH
Experience has been disastrous. I am running Vista Ultimate on an Alienware desktop. I have been using Skype to conduct business in Asia and Aus for years. Now, with Vista, whenever I set up Skype for audio and video and save it, Vista "throws out" the settings, and speakers and mics just don't work. I have to reset everything again, save the configuration, and hope it works for at least a while. Sometime it does; most times it doesn't, and the configs never "remain" saved. I am now exploring audio serviecs, like intercall, to replace Skype. I can't fault Skype on this. It's a typical, arrogant, sloppy, Microsoft issue. Interestingly enough, my other main problem with Vista is that Office 2007 crashes upon exiting programs every time you try to close one.
I'm using Skype on Vista premium and it works just fine. However, since the day I installed skype, i've been having some troubles with internet explorer (in some pages the explorer brakes). At first I couldn't figure out why it happen, but, one day I realised there was a conflict between vista and Internet Explorer. I've uninstalled Skype and Internet Explorer started to work normally, once again. Can anyone explain me why this happened?
i have a acer laptop when i insert headphones for listning songs, voice chat, sound becomes block when i remove pin it is ok. please advice and help to sort it out.
Have Xp, vista and debian on 3 PC's and even though Skype causes issues on all 3 there is always a work around. Ok the video just drops out but I get that with msn also. Am using a Fujitsu siemens PC on my vista and after 2 hours on the phone to the Geek Squad I eventually found a wiz kid who instructed me to do a couple reg entries and audio changes (something similar to what Gun said) and hey presto Skype works. Hope ye all have better luck.
pc web cam works but cant unmute microphone
Vista keeps on muting USB headset there for no sound gets through. It seems to always want to reroute sound to the external sound speakers and never the USB headset.
I can not at all even to try to use skype in Vista, after downloading the skype: "not valid Win32 application" error appears.. But I need very much skype asap, please advice if there is any solution.. Would be thankful if somebody can help me
I have been using Skype with Vista home premium (Dell Inspiron Laptop) for about 8 months with general success. However the has been one major fault that I believe could be either vista or skype at fact. My problem involves returning from either Hibernate or Standby. For more information regarding the fault and its characteristics see : http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=19040
Anyway after many many hours of diagnosis, I believe I now understand that skype is getting in and using port 80 traffic before the Vista comms stack has fully restarted after standby/hibernation. Restarting the PC from stract always works, as the skype startup service appication is started after the internet comms stack is up and running. However when coming out of standby skype can cause situation where both Skype and internet browsers are not able to use port 80. SMTP, PING,telnet and FTP etc work fine in all cases, but not http or skype comms.
If I kill quit skype before I enter standby or hibernation and restart skype only after vista has fully returned.
Vista should however be more robust against this sistuation.
PS: disabling and reenhabling the network adaptor over repeatidly can restore comms eventually, but it can take many (4 or more) attempts.

I have a friend on Skype in Philippine's talk almost every day using headphones. Recently she bought a 1Gb laptop with Vista installed. Every since, we have a problem, the the line constantly "dropping"? The quality of sound is excellent. Is Vista the cause of the line "Dropping" How can we fix this. Would really appreciate your opinion. thank you, patrick.
Just bought a new pavilion laptop with Vista and a built in webcam.
Downloaded Skype with no issues.
But when I click on the HP webcam icon I get a regsitry error.
So I'm stuck - what do I do to fix this?
am living in Mexico and I purchased the VOIP321 I had my son bring it to me. I am having the problems every other VISTA user appears to be having. I can not get the Philips USB driver to work and I have done everything suggested on the Philips website and the Skype forums. Any updates will be appreciated. I have pretty much done everything suggested on this site also.
Here is my response from Philips:
Thank you for contacting Philips online support.
If you have successfully installed the Vista driver and still get no Audio, I suggest checking Device Manager to see if there are any device conflicts showing up - yellow ! or ? anywhere. If so, right click and uninstall these. Also check your Windows audio properties in Control Panel to make sure the VOIP3211 is selected.

I have been running skype on Vista for past couple of months and have not found any difficulty, though i must confess i don't like Vista. Its very irritating, specially in my development environment.
Thanks
Tushar
I am having the same problem as Leon. Can't run skype through vista. It tells me Skype setup is not a valid Win32 app. I am using HP Compaq 6510b laptop.
i'm having trouble with my logitech cam/mic and my online search led me here. i'm getting no sound from it- picture is fine. the mic shows up in device manager. i'm positive the mic is picking up sound, too. when i check recording devices in the volume settings, i can actually see the "bars" beside the mic moving up and down as i talk. but when i try to play something back: no sound at all.
any suggestions?? or am i SOL?
i have vista, so maybe that's the problem.
and:
i was fooling around with it some more, and the mic on the cam works when i'm just using the sound recorder application. i can record something, and when i play it back, i here the audio loud and clear. it's just when i record an actual video that i don't get audio- when i play back the video, all i see is picture. absolutely no sound, even though i haven't messed around with any settings and nothing is muted.
I used to use Skype on windows xp and it worked very well. Now that I have switched to Vista my skype is appalling, sometimes cant hear and when I can there is a terrible echo. Any suggestions?
I have had a lot of problems with Skype even on a clean installation of Vista Ultimate. Random crashes, freezes, poor sound quality. Since I could not go back to XP I started using another VoIP software (VoIPBuster) that is working just fine.
Some people also mentioned that their other party can hear a loud noise after a while when using Skype. I have the same problem, but I think it mightbe a Vista webcam/USB mic driver issue as it is happening with Windows Live Messenger and VoIPBuster as well. I started using a simple, noname USB phone and that works just fine with any VoIP software, even with Skype (but of course it did not stop it crashing and freezing unfortunately.)
Do not forget that Microsoft has entered the VoIP market...no wonder why all of a sudden Skype started having all these problems on Vista... (Try not to make software and their vendors your religion, just find an alternative that works and you'll be happy...life's too short.)
i have vista basic and skype has taken over my internet we have to be logged onto skype in order to browse.
My laptop having Wndows XP always hangs during SKYPE call. Today after installing the latest SKYPE version 3.2, my system is hanging for each and every call. Looks like what Microsoft has indicated is correct.
I can run Skype in Vista and the video looks fine, but the sound cuts out every second for a tiny fraction of a second, which is very annoying, especially if the person on the other end is listening to music. Also, whenever I make a call in Skype, Vista shuts down the Aero skin and reverts to an ugly blue. Not a serious issue but sure is fugly. If the sound issue were fixed I'd be more than happy.
I have the newest Vista and Skype 3.6 - When I click on connect to a Skypecast Chat Room - the very next URL states : " You must have Skype Version 3.2 or better to use this feature ... " Is this a Skype Problem or a Vista Problem and how do we resolve it ?

My Skype works fine with Vista Home Premium. The only problem I have is that everytime I start Vista it looses connection to Internet. Network and Sharing Center shows 2 networks: one Private Network and second Unidentified Public network (which is invalid). Having two networks screws connection. After reseting network adapter second network disappears and connection getting restored. I an not sure if installation of Skype caused it, but it started happening after I installed it and connected Logitech Chat cam
Skype works fine on the computer, but unavaliabe to find a phone to use with the system. want to keep the computer on and use a cordless phone around the house. Any thoughts?
I am having VISTA installed on my laptop. I am facing problem while viewing video on skype. I am getting still photos instead of video. whereas my friend on other side is able to see my video.
I'm using skype on vista, the quality of the song is very poor. so i still have my XP computer, to talk to my family I prefer skype on XP.
Have Toshiba Satellite Laptop with built in Webcam and am running Vista ome Premium. Have been running Skype with webcam for sometime and suddenly my webcam decided not to work. (have version 9 installed Adobe Flashplayer)If I go into my webcam program and turn on manually sometimes it will work but other times it won't. If I restart my computer it will work for a while (turning webcam on manually only) but then it will go black. The message I get on the webcam screen is "blocked by another application". Very frustrating but I don't know what is causing it.
When I use skype in my laptop with Vista Home Premium, I always get a freezed black screen and a dropped call. The curious thing is that this happens ONLY during my first call of the day, after turning computer off and on, I can use skype for a long time with no problems. Does anybody know what might me going on?
here is my problem, I have been trying to down load skype and all i get is this message skype set up exe. is not a valid win 32 application, does anyone know just what that means help!!!!!!!!!!!
What is the story with using skype with vista? Any changes----improvements? What are the alternatives? Has anyone figured out how to make it work with vista?????????????????
I have Windows XP and I cannot get the mic to unmute when I use Skype. It worked perfectly until 2/10/08. I have updated Skype software, followed all of the help instructions available and still cannot get it to work.
Hi
I have vista home on a dell laptop. Originally I could use skype, but then I started experiencing the problem where my mic was muted and the other person could not hear me. Today I have installed skype version 3.2 (older version than I had on my laptop previously) and found that right clicking on the skype shortcut > Properties > Compatibility > tick the "run this program in compatability mode for" Windows XP (Service Pack 2) > Show settings for all users > tick "run this program in compatibility mode for" Windows XP (Service Pack 2) > Apply > OK.
Close Skype, open it up again and it seemed that the test call recognised my mic.
My sound card hasn't worked at all since I installed Skype on my Vista-powered Acer 5520-5147.
I have used Skype before on Vista, it was when I had to upgrade it to Skype Pro. then the microphone did not work. Talk about frustration.
I lost overnight the video access once my call was connected. I have been trying to make this work on two brand new Vista computers (one laptop with built in webcam) and one desktop with Logiteck Pro 9000. The irony is I finally got it all to work last night and this morning the video access button once call connected disappeard from both systems. If anyone has any idea on this, I would be greatly appreciative.
I have connected skype on my windows vista computer which was working properly for a couple of months. Now i upgraded to the new vertion of skype for windows vista and my connection is sudenly interupted after a few minuts. Some times imediatly. Can you please sujest me what to do?
When I try configure my VOIP phone to use with Skype my audio settings switch to mute mode! Use of headset/mic isn't as good as with XP - lack of clarity and voice delay experienced.
unusable. 100% cpu consumption.
Not sure if anything has changed - my Vista just crashed hard. RIght after I installed Skype. PC woudl not boot until I removed it. I am heading back to XP..............
I noticed a number of comments regarding Vista crash when using Skpye with a Bluetooth device. I too had the same problem and discovered the Vista Bluetooth load btwavdt.sys driver is a 2006 issue. I went to the Lenovo website to download the latest Bluetooth (62bm07_ww.exe)set of dtivers on my HP Pavilion dv6000....problem solved ! No more crashes and the new drivers automatically log-on your Bluetooth devices when switched on.
I get a blue screen daily when using Skype on Windows Vista Business. It is a Trap unknown.
I installed Skype on my Dell laptop running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I purchased a Logitech Skype phone, and after 2 weeks of trying to get the mic to 'unmute', I returned the phone in frustration. I had a terrible time even finding a Security package that would work. Symantec would not work nor would serveral others. I finally found that Windows Live Onecare would function without crashing. I love my laptop, but if I had known of all of the incompatibility issues with Vista, I would definitely have purchased with the 'obsolete' XP.
I have all this software and hardware I thought I would be able to migrate to the Vista Laptop I bought, was I surprised. How does a company lose its credibility, look to Microsoft for the answer to this and many more to come. It is too expensive in time, money, and frustration to put up. Never again will I trust Microsoft.
Well I'm on holiday in Thailand right now, and have tried to install Skype on my Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, and I get the message: “SkypeSetup.exe is not a valid Win32-program.” And I can’t install it!
Downloaded latest Skype yesterday. Installs "nicely" and the setup is OK. Tried a videoconference with a friend, but I am only able to receive video, and not broadcast (other recipient gets black screen, and I can see that my screen is black too). My built in camera works fine otherwise. So I try to check the videosettings in Skype. Surprise, surprise; it tells me my camera is a ok, and it is even possible to do the "Test videophoto"- option. So I save the settings, and call up my friend. Still black screen on my behalf.
Dear sir.
I am running SKYPE version 3.6.0.248 on Vista with no problems at all.
Vista and Skype
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It took me a while to figure this out, so I thought I'd share it.
Skype will install and run under Vista. You'll be able to call others, and
even the beta video feature will work.
However, if anyone tries to call your computer, they will receive a
"rejection" message saying that you only accept calls from people in your
contact list. This will happen even if the caller is in your contact list,
or you have configured Skype to accept calls from all callers.
The reason for this is the Windows Firewall. For some reason, it will allow
outbound internet access by Skype, but it blocks in-bound calls. To correct
this, open Windows Firewall in the Control Panel, select "Allow a program
through the firewall," and manually check Skype.
After this, Skype will function normally.
Yes, it appears to be a volitile mixture. I have been using Skype for several years and have installed more than one version on my XP OS withut much hassle. I recently became a Vista user on my new Dell Precision M4300 laptop and am experiencing that my computer shuts down when I make a call via Skype.
Skype used to work for me.. Automatic updating created a conflict with all my internet programs(mozilla, IE and safari) except Skype which continued to work. I've managed to get IE working again by rolling back with changed firewall settings but now Skype doesn't connect..nor does mozilla or safari?
I have a vista powered acer..5 months old..

I've undergone a lot of problems with using Skype after having upgraded my pc from XP to Vista. However I did find a solution to get around the problem. Vista has got this compatibility function installed, which means you can run programs on Vista like they would have run on XP (or Windows 95, 98, ME, etc.). I made Skype run under XP, changed the sound settings in Skype, and Skype worked perfectly once again. What you need to do is this:
1. Download Skype to your computer
2. Go to the SkypeSetup.exe file, and select 'properties', then hit the tab screen called 'compatibility'
3. Check the box that says "Run this program in this compatibility mode", and then select "Windows XP" in the scroll menu under this box.
4. Apply these settings and then simply install Skype by double-clicking the SkypeSteup.exe file like you would normally do.
5. When Skype is installed, open Skype, log in, go to settings, then go to sound settings and check the box under the microphone saying "Let Skype adjust my sound settings".
6. Save these changes, log out of Skype, and then close Skype.
7. Now you can open Skype again, and if all went well you should be ready to use Skype once again! At least this trick worked for me. Good luck!
I have a Dell Inspiron running with Vista and I installed Skype a few weeks ago. At first it was okay but lately when I'm on Skype the screen turns completely black and I have to reboot completely to get the laptop going again. Most annoying if I'm talking to someone.
I put Skype on my Vista machine and haven't been able to get the sound card to work since. It works fine if I stick in a Linux CD and run my PC off that, but under Vista I just can't get it to work anymore. I've even uninstalled Skype, and am now thinking I'll have to re-install the OS - but believe me, it won't be Vista I'll be installing! I've had nothing but hassles with the computer since I bought it with Vista pre-installed, and it is slow as a dog compared to my much less powerful Linux, MacOS and XP boxes.
Skype usually does not work well with Vista. I think the problem is with Vista itself. CPU usage gradually rises during a call to almost 100%.
This problem never happens with XP
I'm back to say that by reading the comments and following the instructions of Sebastiaan Matulewicz | April 1, 2008 06:49 AM listed on this site, it seems to have resolved the problem of my laptop crashing everytime I use Skype to make a phone call. I was skeptical at first but my first call lasted over 5 mins without my laptop crashing and my second call lasted 25 minutes without any crashing. I am elated as I hope this has solved my problems for good when I use Skype on my laptop. I'm not technical so I don't really understand the ins and outs of it but as long as it works, it's good enough for me.
I have used Skype with Vista.
For a while apparently all works correctly without troubles but, now, after an automatic update of Vista I have a lot of shut down of Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or any other browser installed in my laptop. Troubles are ceasing only when I exit Skype. Please note in my laptop I have installed the release 3.8 BETA.
Those who experience the problem of internet explorer shutting down as soon as you start skype, look into this suggestion.

for some reason i cant talk? anyone have an idea why its not working?
I am using Vista Home premium. No internet telephony systems work. After opening the program none of them can connect. Each one reports that I have no connection to the internet. If that were the case I couldn´t write this. It start when windows advised that IE was crashing due to a Skype add on. I upgraded to 3.6 and since then nothing works. Even previous versions of Skype. I use windows firewall and defender. That´s all
Im using Microsoft Vista Premium Home edition right now on my Dell Inspiron 1526 laptop. and I too, is using a Skype for my communication from our main office and to some of my friends. So far, i haven't experience any problems with it. Maybe its just really beaureucratic/certification issue as what you've stated.
hi wayne colwyn bay use skype to contact my brother in cyprus
i have problems with the microphone also get echo during conversation and the mic problem sometimes he cannot hear me and
i car'nt understand why it goes on mute its very anoying
kind regards
wayne
Skype works fine under Vista Ultimate, but you have to forward a port on the router and allow it through Windows Firewall (of course). Without these steps, there will be poor audio. You must also tell Skype to use a specific port, rather than let it try to subvert its way through HTTP (as it does by default).
DUALPhone, however is somewhat unstable and tends to crash a lot (always on resume from screensaver): sadly, technical support has declared that no fixes for Vista will be released, so people who recently bought one have been left in the lurch with this. The claim that there is a 'fatal error' that cannot be fixed seems unlikely, given that it all works fine except for an utterly reproducible driver crash. I would suggest everyone affected write them. Also, DUALPhone is not recognised by Skype as a device 'in use', so you do have to change the timeout settings to something large, otherwise Skype will go into 'Away' mode in the middle of a call and hang up. Also, Skype needs to be directed to use the DUALphone as a specified sound device.
Hope this helps, although given the diversity of systems out there, your mileage may vary.
I should also add:
Photoshop CS3 is working fine.
Symantec broke the rules and then had the cheek to blame Microsoft when the security hole they exploited was plugged and they were caught with their pants down ("those who can do, those that can't blame Microsoft"). Who cares? There are far better products out there in my opinion (NOD32, Acronis TrueImage), and they do not have any problems supporting Vista.
DUALphone and Skype have the same problems under XP (and the same configuration requirements still apply - "there is no substitute for knowing what you are doing" - especially when it comes to networking).
Windows Vista is more stable and faster on my PC with all fancy animations and effects on than XP was with them off. And it is far more secure with far less effort made to secure it.
However, installing and configuring a PC still needs technical know-how, and the average user will always run into trouble if they are not prepared to do their homework and understand the basics.
There is no point in blaming Microsoft for this, especially when the problem lies with bad design in non-Microsoft applications.
Skype 3.8 corrupted Internet Explorer and eventually the whole system. I reloaded windows vista back to factory settings with the recovery disks and had NO problems with internet explorer until I upgraded from skype 3.6 to skype 3.8. Now IE does not open certain mainstream websites like gmail and occasionaly shuts itself down. Skype and Microsoft have to resolve these issues right away. I lost a lot of valuable data because of this. Hope this is helpful.
Since I changed to a vista computer (it was either that or more expensive Mac) skype hasn't worked. It's very frustrating.
I'm using Skype on Vista; however, I've been getting a lot of messages stating my memory is low. In addition, I'm having several programs app end almost everytime I use Skype. My computer locks which means I have to hold the power button down to shut down.

Also on the Skipe compatibility list Vista is not mentioned. I am still wondering why... I had a problem at first use: I could hear the caller but the caller couldn't hear me. I installed K-Lite codec pack for Vista and immediately worked OK. My friend got a laptop last week and is now experiencing same issue and we have more trouble resolving it.
Have heard a rumour that someone is putting around that all new PC's Pre-installed windows Home Premuim are going to come with Skype, but I can't find any referrance to this, only that people like Sony are putting it on some of they PC's and laptops. Anyone else heard anything about
my girl in colorado has vista and every time we use skype she has to download it again.her comp will not work right if skype is installed. we constantly have to call each other because the calls drop all the time. I love skype but I have xp. my point is vista sucks buy a macintosh !
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, and installed Skype 4 Beta,
Looks great! BUT: After 5 Minutes of being into a conversation Skype to Skype. The Computer crashes. Can’t do nothing but ree-boot.after sitting through the boring scandisk created by not shutting down properly I uninstalled it and put 3.8 back on.
Seems to me Version 4 has a connection bug with Vista?

Have had Skype running on vista for about 9 months. all ok until version 3.8 came along with its entrils do you want to load it or not to the tool bars so it does which ever way you go about it. But the best one is the double connection of Internet Explorer v7 where it forces a home page of your favourite site beneath a second page from Skype if you want help go there. Now to remove this problem you have to use regedit and remove about 50 skype entries from the system one by one SKYPE Get It Right For Gods Sake its driving me crazy in the repair shop -- getting about 5 a day FIX IT Please
I think have the answer to most of your headset and mic issues. Give my 1 day and I should have a fix for you all. It's not Vista.
Problem with sound. They hear me but I dont hear them. Echo 123 is not working.
I am running Viste Premium Home SP1. When I try to run SKYPE I get a message that sayes it is not a Win32 application what does this mean and how do I fix it?
I have been using Skype on Vista/Dell 1521 for more than a year with no problems. Now I got a Dell 1535 with a slightly different Vista and I can't install Skype due to the ubiquitous "not valid win32" message. Of course the new computer has the webcam...
I have a new (6 weeks) Hp Pavillion AMD 64 with Vista operating system installed by OEM.
Skype version 3.80.115 worlks fine up to a point. I can talk with the other person and the other person can see MY video, but I cannot see theirs.
If however I take a snapshot on my web Camera (a logitech Quickcam pro 9000) I can see the other person (only a snapshot of course). This suggests the problem is not with my Camera but thats as far as I can conclude. Anyone had similar difficulties and found a solution?
I am running Skype on Vista & have great service & voice quality, however, when we are using our webcams & have an incoming land line phone call it shuts down the webcams. Have idea why. Do have a DSL filter inside the house. May need on outside on pho box. Any ideas?
