Even though this post is so old (just over 6 years) it is still relevant and still describes beautifully the differences between blogs and static websites.
It was funny though that there was no mention of Wordpress which has become so prevalent in todays blog world. Another topic, the blog as a profit machine, is also missing for better or worse. See this in action at Paid Surveys (http://www.paid-survey-success.com/)
Blogs are still evolving, but are also still very true to their roots. Even though they are becoming more commercialized we can still see the community and communication inherent in blogs.
