| Continuing the question of why a parallel index to Spotlight, why couldn't some of this be implemented as a Spotlight importer? Caffeinated Cocoa has had its Google Importer available for some time (http://www.caffeinatedcocoa.com/googleImporter/), though that just does web searching. With maybe a preference pane to set login information, the same thing could be done with GMail. And unlike the Google Importer, this hypothetical GMail importer could keep an offline index just as Google Desktop does. | ||
