Tommy -- if you've successfully converted your system to a dual boot system, Ubuntu itself may recognize your USB memory stick. I have a "PNY Attache" memory stick, and as soon as I plug it into a USB slot when I'm booted in Ubuntu, Ubuntu recognizes the device.

On my system, Ubuntu automatically mounts the memory stick as:

/media/usbdisk

and I can access that as though it was a standard directory on my system.
