Getting Your Bluetooth Headset to Work in XP
Subject:   Toshiba stack?

Hi, I have been reading the instructions and posts out here and they look to be very helpful. However, they all seem to revolve around adapters using the widcomm stack. I apparently have not chosen wisely...I have a BlueSpoon USB 2.o EDR dongle that uses the toshiba stack. The system requirements were pretty straight forward, Win98, ME, 2K or XP, 800Mhs P3 or above, 256RAM, USB 1.1 compliant. I have an HP TC4200 laptop runnig XP Pro sp2, I have a 1.8ghz processor, and 1gb of ram so more than meet the sw requirements of the dongle. My problem is this...when I installed the software from the MFG, I get the following error during installation: "Bluetooth Manager" This program is not compatible with this Bluetooth Module.

When you click ok on the error, the app continues to install but it never runs and if you try to run it automatically you get the same error.

I thought I would try to get it to work with XP, so I disabled the Windows BT driver and then right clicked on the generic, told it to update the driver and manually selected the toshiba driver from the installation CD....still get the same error.

I would like to know 1st, what the error means - I am not sure what's not compatible with what and then how do I make it work or do I need to kiss off the $$ I spent on this adapter and buy one that uses the widcomm stack?

I did try to get it to work with XP but had the same problems as everyone else...I could see my headset (Plantronics voyager 510) and I could pair with it but I only get the initial beep telling me it paired - then it won't work in an app like SKYPE - no sound, no voice and SKYPE doesn't see the headset so I cannot choose it as an option in there. ANY help would be appreciated. With all this technology...it shouldn't be this hard to make something as simple as a bluetooth headset work! :-)

Thanks
Leslie

  • Toshiba stack?

I am using the Toshiba stack. It came with the Dell 350 Bluetooth module for my Dell D610. Everything works, except:
    1) no bluetooth devices show up in device manager
    2) Activesync doesn't work. I'm assuming because it uses the MS Bluetooth Enumerator?

    Any clues?
