Have you looked into django
The django project has a great object relational mapper layer. I've started doing Rails work in the last year, but I have seen Adrian Holovaty do a few talks here in the Chicago area and django is pretty impressive.
I don't know if the django ORM layer can be extracted and put to more general use, like Rail's Active Record can, but django is pure python and it makes integration with databases a snap. |
