Nice that Macintosh Business Unit is a great bunch of people. But, I did not see any mention of the high cost of Office X! I can't pay $500 for Office X, but I am willing to pay a reasonable price. Even the Office X upgrade price is way too steep! I think a lot of the "new" adopters will probably pass on Office X and look for an open source app.

You can get OS X 10.2 for $99 after a rebate.
I was lucky to order it from Amazon when they had an even better rebate. I ended up paying $79.

I've heard this message loud and clear as a response to all my postings on this subject. I hope Microsoft has heard it too. The price of Office X is too high--especially since many of the potential users not only have other, cheaper alternatives, but may already own Office 2001 for Mac. If so, they are faced with the prospect of paying a full, very hefty price just to run native under OS X, with no real added benefits.

10.1 was for real. It's been out almost a year. It was a free update.
Everyone who owns a Mac already has a copy of Mac OS, so everyone who isn't buying a new computer is upgrading, so an "upgrade break" doesn't make a lot of sense. Apple is doing what they always seem to have done: provided the upgrade at a low cost (~$20) to anyone who bought a computer after the announcement, but otherwise, it costs what it costs.
If 10.2 isn't worth $129, don't buy it. Wait for 10.3. Buy a PC. Whatever. No one is putting a gun to your head. Your computer will continue working with 10.1.
This is slightly off topic, but has it occurred to anyone that Apple is essentially acting as the unpaid system administrator for all Mac users? Recently, they've been doing a pretty good job of keeping their eye on the ball with security issues. Is this worth any money? I think so.
