ok. first of all. thank you for this article. both to O'Reilly, and also to Gina. I've just acquired my first laptop (g4 12" pb.. also my first mac.. ahhh!) and wanted more than anything to take my protools rig on the road (..damn them for not selling a dongle, as i already own the damn digi002, not exactly a portable rig, but that's another story). Anyways, after my first trip away, I found that working with headphones was simply not working for me (nevermind using the computer keyboard as midi input).. but I had to start somewhere.. so upon return last week, i set about seeking sound (no pun indended) advice on finding portable speakers that don't suck for monitoring mixes etc.. and while everyone has their own opinion, it was AN informed opinion that I sought. There is no shortage of technical and promotional information out there, but i needed to hear from someone who had similar needs to myself and an informed opinion. I don't expect anyone to have the definitive answer, nor would i hold them to it if they did, since it's not my opinion, it's theirs. Nonetheless, I digress... The reason I'm writing this, instead of working, despite the fact that it'll keep me here at work later on a friday night.. is because that's how disturbed i feel about all this hater-ation.. WTF people.?! Seriously! I'm a 36 year old web programmer with a passion for noodling on music projects in my spare time, and I must admit, amongst the seemingly infinite "information" available out here, THIS article was the sole bit of good information I was able to find.. and being a long time web guy, I can conduct a pretty solid search.. (tho i can't seem to write a concise sentence now can i?), and while i've seen my share of flaming and hating out here, I've rarely seen such a degree of HATE as amongst my fellow commenters. I mean honestly, WOW! I won't even bother naming names, but like the man said, if you got nothing good to say.. get lost. I lost count of how many nay-sayers there were spewing strongly worded opinions WITHOUT A SINGLE POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION TO THEIR FELLOW READERS.. People who find this article are looking for advice on how to set up their portable studio.. and if you've got nothing to offer in that regard.. go pick on someone of your own miserable demeanor. Those of you who had constructive criticism, and offered alternate perspectives on the topic at hand.. thank you as well, and again, thanks Gina, I honestly appreciate that such an article was available.. but as for the rest of you.. jesus.. get a life, you should be ashamed of yourselves. It is entirely shameless of you to mercilessly slam Gina's attempts at informing those of us who are actively seeking such perspective while simultaneously offering absolutely nothing of value to the conversation. To you I say put down the Hater-Ade before you drink yourselves to death.
