Are you still able to get into Windows? That is, does the Windows bootloader come up first, and let you select Windows or Ubuntu? or do you immediately see the grub prompt? If the latter, then your reinstallation of Ubuntu overwrote the Windows bootloader and installed grub, but the grub installation has failed to identify the presence of any operating systems on the computer.

The Windows boot loader still comes up and lets me select between the two. Its when I select Ubuntu that I get the word grub,a blinking curser and nothing else. At this point, do I try to reinstall Ubuntu again? I've done this a couple of times and I have even moved the partition a little by shrinking the Windows partition. Thanks so much for your help.
