| I followed your instructions and everything worked great! But I had to reinstall Ubuntu because of an error on my part. After reinstalling Ubuntu, all I recieved was the word grub and a blinking curser. Nothing responded and I had to do a hard shutdown. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. | ||

grub error

The Windows boot loader still comes up and lets me select between the two. Its when I select Ubuntu that I get the word grub,a blinking curser and nothing else. At this point, do I try to reinstall Ubuntu again? I've done this a couple of times and I have even moved the partition a little by shrinking the Windows partition. Thanks so much for your help. -

It sounds like Grub is not aware of any operating systems being available for loading. This implies the Ubuntu installation either did not complete, or it didn't create its entry in the Grub menu.lst file .
If you boot using the CD, you should see menu.lst located in the /boot/grub directory of the bootable partition where you have installed Ubuntu. In directory /boot you should see files that start with "vmlinuz" and "initrd". In file menu.lst, you would see references to these files, if the grub/ubuntu installation worked correctly.
That grub does not provide you with any boot options implies you won't see any "vmlinuz*" or "initrd*" files referenced in menu.lst. Is that indeed the case?

If the Windows bootloader is still letting you select Windows or Ubuntu, and you see the grub prompt but nothing else when you select Ubuntu, then your reinstallation of Ubuntu did not work.
