I just spent the last weekend moving my server over from Geronimo to JBoss because I got fed up with not being able to use all the great stuff that's gone into Java 5 and EJB3. I think the article makes a good point that for a highly customized usage Geronimo might be a good fit, but Glassfish and JBoss are both way better choices for open source app servers, especially for new development.

JFI, JBoss EJB3 is not a final implementation and it does not pass the EJB3 Compatibility Test Suite. Moreover, I don't consider JBoss to be pure open source. JBoss is a result of vested interests. JBOss which is now RedHat JBoss, pays developets to contribute and employs them. Also, the JBoss license doesn't meet the prerequisites of the LGPL (Lesser General Public License).
